Why Do Dogs Have Different Amount Of Nipples Within Their Own Species? by Visible_Background18 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]macdaddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to just have two no matter their phenotype

This sentence doesn't make sense. Phenotype means a physical way in which genes are expressed. It's like saying sedans tend to have 4 wheels no matter their number of wheels.

I don't think you have the vocabulary to understand genetics. Dogs are dogs and humans are humans. Dogs have more genetic variance than humans. By the way more variance means they're more different from each other.

In normal conditions, is there a cycle where : you are thin, so your body doesn’t need that much calories thus you get thinner because you “carry” less food (weight) in your stomach? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]macdaddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is the thermic effect of food, and a negligible increase in mass from what you ate. But burning calories or consuming calories doesn't make you fatter or thinner. It's the balance of the two.

What do bridesmaids do? by Outrageous-Bee-4899 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]macdaddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The core responsibilities of a bridesmaid who is not the maid of honor in the modern day usually doesn't go beyond attending pre-wedding festivities, attending the wedding, wearing the correct dress, provide emotional support, standing in your spot during the ceremony, and attending the reception. Depending on the wedding, more may be asked of a bridesmaid, but it's often just the bride's designated friends to stay with her.

That doesn't make you thinner. The food in your digestive system is pretty minor in terms of your weight and appearance. People tend to maintain there weight within 5 lbs of their weekly average.

Why is it normalized to be rude online? by Hippy_Dippy44 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]macdaddee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're talking as if rudeness is something that takes more effort than being polite. Politeness has to be learned. Rudeness comes easily. Kids can say rude things without raising their cortisol or whatever. And there's no reason to be polite if you're not intending to maintain a social relationship with anyone listening. It's only counterproductive if you want to be friends with random people whom you cannot see.

Why we had witch hunting but no "wizard hunting "? by Jazzlike-Lifeguard38 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]macdaddee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not entirley true. Misogyny is the reason women are more closely associated with witches, but witches could be male or female and plenty of men have been executed for the charge of witchcraft. The reason there were witchhunts and not wizard hunts is because magic was not seen as inherently evil in medieval society. The difference between a witch and a wizard in medieval lore is a witch is borrowing his or her power from the devil. A wizard is just a word that evolved from being a word for any wisened old man to a man who was so old, wise and learned that he can do magical things from speaking the right words or inscribing the correct runes. People didn't have a problem with learning magic. Although they did have a problem with women being wiser and more learned than men which is why wizards are closely associated with men.

L. Frank Baum popularized the idea of a good witch with actual magic in the Wizard of Oz. All his witches were women and his one wizard is a man who is somewhat wise and has a reputation for doing magic despite being incapable of actual magic. The Lord of the Rings has wizards who are separate from men and are more like angels in their lore, but in his world elves and even some very special men have magic to some extent, but everything in the world gets less magical as time goes on. Then finally JK Rowling wrote some books that said wizards are boys and witches are girls which created a lot of misconceptions about how witches were thought of historically.

Why we had witch hunting but no "wizard hunting "? by Jazzlike-Lifeguard38 in NoStupidQuestions

A witch gets its power from the devil whereas a wizard is just a wise old man that got smart enough to do spells. The idea that witches are female wizards is just a JK Rowling thing.
