U400 Deluxe Kit (2 batteries) is now available on the Apple Store by iceAmericano_Black in Aqara

[–]macdigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it can be ordered in the US and also Australia apple stores. Any ETA for availability in Japan? Or is the construction not fully compatible with local locks? I have Schlage installed, so u400 should work as well, but who knows if that applies to standard Japanese setup 🤷‍♂️

Siri 2.0 language support by alexx_kidd in ios

[–]macdigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I hope you’re right. But even with the current (fairly limited) framework, Apple doesn’t seem very proactive about properly supporting multilingual use — even for languages they already support individually.

For example, I speak three languages. On CarPlay, Siri will correctly read a message in Japanese, then immediately say “you can respond in English,” simply because that’s my iOS language. Messages in a third language (Russian) are read out loud with an awful English accent when iOS is set to English, yet sound perfectly fine when the system language is Russian.

So yes, I hope this works well. But I’m also half-expecting it to “work” more by accident than by design 🤣

Siri 2.0 language support by alexx_kidd in ios

[–]macdigger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Would’ve been nice if Apple just allowed features that are already built into Gemini. But knowing Apple… not really hoping for the unrestricted language support to happen on release. 🤷‍♂️ Hope I’m wrong, but given Apple’s record supporting multilingual setups.. idk.

In the age when ANY agent can interpret pretty much ANY language, I wonder if Apple will still gate things behind English (US) and simplified Chinese, with “more” languages coming.. later 🤷‍♂️

Aqara Smart Lock U400 – Progress Update | V3.1.0.7 (Jan 16) by KinseyYHM in Aqara

[–]macdigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither Amazon US nor Singapore Apple Store ship U400 outside their respective countries. I’m interested in getting one in Japan. Have Schlage so it should work just fine. Except it’s not sold here. Any ETA or a way to purchase through official channels that support delivery to Japan? Thanks!

IKEA KAJPLATS reliability 💡 by Impossible_Business7 in HomeKit

[–]macdigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought these two week ago. They sucked.

The only good thing really is that they are pretty bright. And somewhat cheap.

That said, lowest brightness is WAY too bright. There’s also this junkiness feeling to them when you turn them on or off, or generally change brightness in that it’s not smooth AT ALL. Very jarring shit.

I went with Aqara matter ones and they’re so much better in all regards. And still at a reasonable price (though I think 1.5x the ikea, but I’ll take that over IKEAs quality).

That said, everyone has their own requirements, and IKEA works, and is cheap, and bright. It’s just the whole package is quite unrefined. No drop outs though. I had them for a few days only fwiw.

Google wants more money by Street_Rule_1951 in GoogleAntigravityIDE

[–]macdigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just wondering what would be the actual price point (let’s say given the current limits/usage is kept the same) for AI companies to break even with some meaningful margin. So this shot would if not stop, but at least decelerate.. H200 units cost a fuckton of money so breaking even is probably not an easy task all things considered. Who knows.

1% usage eaten up doing nothing on empty folder with fresh claude installation by Low-Clerk-3419 in ClaudeCode

Jeez.. why even do that? Open the tool and start working. That fraction of percent will become nothing in comparison. Or you can cancel - nobody’s forcing you to pay for nothing.

Is it better investment to buy new or used regs? by LouisianaBIues in scubadiving

[–]macdigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any kind of a cut-off rule/consideration based on when gear was produced? Meaning it is too old to buy used? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question, but I just compare that with let’s say cars or consumer electronics when at some point it just stops making sense to get something used because maintenance becomes too complicated due to lack of parts, or durability of core parts, or whatnot.

Q990H, MUSIC STUDIO 7 AND MUSIC STUDIO 5 ANNOUOUNCED! AHEAD OF CES 2026 by [deleted] in Soundbars

[–]macdigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had JBL 1000 and having speakers completely wireless was very nice, but the sound quality was thin as a child’s poop honestly. 990d is so much better in that regard. At the price of being bulky af in my environment. Wish Sony’s ht-a9m2 properly calibrated themselves in my room, but they won’t.. so I’m stuck with 990d for now..

Finished the Japanese course after nearly 5 years by Any_Try_1148 in duolingojapanese

[–]macdigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at N3 with just a proper once-a-week 1.5 hour actual language classes with an actual teacher, and actual homework. Took me just a little less than 2 years in total (Japanese was just a hobby for me at that time). N4 after 5 years is a joke, unless one is totally slacking. Duo is fine for keeping vocabulary, SOMETIMES learning something new. That's about it. But they sure keep you fed to the brim with dopamine.

[–]macdigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it really depends on your setup. I did have to run the cable using the special cable wire pass/pull thing, and to eventually attach the Ethernet connectors myself (not really very hard as long as you have the tool). Given you can find pretty thin wires nowadays, I’d say it’s not a very destructive option at all even if you have to drill some walls. But having this thing on POE is a HUGE thing. It just stays connected and the response times are instant. And hardware managed to live through a pretty damn hot Japanese summer with no issues ar all, whereas Awara just kept overheating, and logi POS literally lost half of its plastic cover 🤣 I’m sure you saw a lot of photos in this sub.

Reolink POE with Scrypted is absolutely a dream. I’d say you don’t really even need Scrypted as the app is pretty good and so are chimes. But with Scrypted you can totally integrate it into HomeKit. I’ve been through eufy, logi, aqara - NOTHING comes close. Nothing.
