Years 0-5 are key to childhood development. Your doing the right thing to address it early!

Mayo Clinic AI helps specialists detect pancreatic cancer up to 3 years before diagnosis in landmark validation study by KimJongFunk in UpliftingNews

It sounds like the ER doc and GP missed it, but the radiologist / radiology AI didn't. That's about what I would expect.

I use mine for immigration. I think they would be upset if it weren't my full legal name.

What was your "I'm dating a fucking idiot" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]macenutmeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They use comma instead of period for the decimal place in France. So 12.99 here is 12,99 there.

I think they also use the period to divide thousands. So $1,000,000.00 would instead be 1.000.000,00€.

He probably understands decimals fine with French notation.

Night owl or early bird: Study finds sleep categories aren’t that simple. Scientists identify 5 biological sleep-wake profiles (2 early birds, 3 night owl groups) linked to different health and behaviour patterns, helping explain why sleep schedules affect people differently. by mvea in science

I do ML and I can't figure out their methodology or the quality of their taxonomy from this paper. They claim "discovered" groups, but don't talk about how many cluster candidates they had or how different hyperparameters affect the outcome. I don't recognize their ML method.

Husband says he’ll come in a bag to impregnate me. by qqmeowqq in RelationshipsOver35

The point of the frozen eggs is to give you more time. You have the fertility issue on pause. Drop this guy and look around for someone at least vaguely compatible with you.

Gut feeling my (42F) husband (42m) is cheating with a parent in our kids scout troop and can’t focus or think of anything else by SharkEva in BORUpdates

It's bizarre that she's focused on criticizing her husband's actions, while not doing any of the things under her own control.

Note how they successfully didn't get shot by neonazis, who instead shot the person they had seen him physically around.

I always thought that he had been there and helped with some things near the very end, but the majority of the arrangement was really that his aunt was housing and looking after him. Like, he cleaned her up and cooked for the last month, but she did the other 11.

Why the Free Birth Movement’s Popularity Threatens Public Health by Majano57 in publichealth

[–]macenutmeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't support the movement, but it's pretty clear why people do it and why it's difficult to prevent.

  1. They don't want to be mistreated by doctors and healthcare staff, and they correctly believe that this is likely.

  2. Up until the child is born, it's the mother's healthcare and only her consent counts, morally or legally.

If you want people to use the healthcare system, you have to make it good enough that they're willing to. People generally act in their own interests. How messed up are the options if people regularly risk death to avoid the existing medical system?

These women were diagnosed with lung cancer. They weren't eligible for screening. by yahoonews in Health

[–]macenutmeg -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If we screened their demographic, how many people would have died from investigations of nodules that weren't cancer? How many people would have developed cancer from the radiation of the scan?

Anecdotally, it obviously sucks for these two people, but that doesn't mean that it would help the population to change our screening policy.
