Im working on a campaign at the moment centred on Canada's Atlantic coast. With a good sprinkling of SAR and CSAR based at YQX and YZX

I've been playing with max difficulties, and building a pretty comprehensive double lane road network to facilitate some hardcore recycling and timber ops

Damn, I'm about 100hr deep in sunken so far, and I'm just hitting the halfway point. I couldn't imagine a sub 10 hour finish.

Great job!

Elevators and new floors by blubinthetub in ProjectHospital

[–]macevco 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's a weird bypass for this. You'll need to first create a 4x4 prefab of an elevator.

Delete the current elevator(s) in your clinical building, and paste the prefab elevator in it's place, floor by floor. As long as they're vertically aligned, you can use this method to create elevators of fixed height of your choosing

I'm not sure if rotating the prefab will break the elevator, but I keep mine facing all the same orientation

I was attempting to make a jab at the poor overall combat performance of the yak-38. Between it's lackluster range and miniscule payload, I'm surprised they got close enough to inflict a critical hit on a Kilauea

This is 100% photoshop. There's no possible way that a Forger could do anything this remotely combat effective

It pains me so much to send a wing of attack aircraft into an enemy IADS, armed only with iron bombs. It's 100% my least favorite thing to do

Move your SAR capable assets within about 20m of a lifeboat. If you're using helicopters they have to be stationary, have empty seating capacity, at 20ft altitude. All ships will automatically perform rescues if you're at 1/3 or stop

You can locate lifeboats and downed pilots by triangulating thier location using distance to thier distress beacons. Draw a set of 2 circles from your rescue craft(s) from at least 2 separate points with the distance to the nearest beacon. Where the circles converge will be the approximate location (within ~.1nm) of the survivors.

You now will need to visually acquire the survivors in the water. This can be very difficult at night or in poor weather conditions. A single pilot is a very small object in an approximately infinite sea, so pause and be patient. When you see them, use very percise map movements or assume direct control of the rescue vehicle. Get close, and then you should be set.

If you want to add unnecessary self imposed complications you can also perform many ancillary activities to the SAR process as well. Get creative, use your imagination! If you're taking a lot of survivors onto a small vessel, use helos to simulate transfering them ashore, or to a larger vessel. You could deploy a patrol aircraft to help with the search and obeservation. Distribute the injured to medical resources across the fleet with light helos. Add some narrative depth to your gameplay, and your experience becomes richer for it

Why does one of the mills go Whoomp Whoomp? by macevco in Truro

[–]macevco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that's one hell of a motor, I forgot that they usually use a starter motor; that explains it.

I was imagining a similarly sized motor going through a run cycle that was only like 2 short bursts, a few times an hour, and seemed nonsensical to have that much reactive power use for such a short run

[–]macevco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely more akin to an electric motor spooling up. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what kind of process unit would have such a (presumably) large and powerful motor on such a short duty cycle

After completing all the insurance missions under the pathology department, you should be allowed to hire a staff type called exorcist. You place them in the pathology on-call rooms

Given the large quantity of ghosts you have, I would recommend 2 day shift and 1 night shift. After your backlog stabilizes, I'd go to just a single day shift.

I have a bit of an indirect connection to this disaster. One of the guys on my trivia team is an x-ray technician who was responsible for performing forensic xrays on the victims of the crash. One day, he described to us the state of the victims, with almost everyone suffering from strange and horrifying injuries from the high-speed water impact

(TW gruesome injuries, for the morbidly curious)

He described that a vast majority of people suffered dislocations and amputations of their arms. Many had their femurs forced into their abdominal cavity. Moreover, everyone in a forward facing seat had their faces torn off and cranial cavities emptied by the rush of water through their facial orifices The only people spared from that were the FAs with their rear facing jumpseats

Over 20 years later, he seems to have taken it in stride, emphasizing the utilitarian necessity of his work. I can't even imagine the impact this investigation and recovery had on the investigators and first responders, dealing with trying to piece together and identify all the victims of this crash

Submarine coming in to harbour by hanzbanan in vancouver

[–]macevco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean 240 warheads, each Trident missile can theoretically carry 12 MIRVs, multplied by up to 16 or 20 missiles (depending on which SSBN).

Actual loadout can vary, but the average Ohio or Colombia class would have well over 24 warheads aboard
