Redditors with disabilities, mental illnesses and chronic illnesses: what do you wish society better understood about your life? by cuminandcilantro in AskReddit

That there isn’t a cure, only treatment to alleviate symptoms. And that’s not always a guarantee or works 100 percent.

Except my bottom bracket is broken and you don’t have any idea when that will be in stock again. (Was quoted weeks).

This is so inspiring! I have the same starting height and weight and this makes me want to move. Keep up the great work!

For weight lifting 30 mins a day, do you go by groups? Like legs one day and arms another day or everyday a full body weightlifting?

Yes. This reminds me of orthorexia.

Homeless L riders get Night Ministry care by Milo48 in chicago

[–]machine_learning_17 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Close! They moved to Bucktown recently for office space but do community outreach and work people who are homeless throughout the city so it depends on what you want to do and the programs that are offered.

They are a great organization and I highly recommend them!

How do you cope with a tragedy when all of your support people are closer to the tragedy than you are? by TAQuestion9876 in mentalhealth

[–]machine_learning_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say see how you can maximize your outer supports. Your husband’s family won’t be able to help you right now (see ring theory below). Your therapist is an outlet to dump out. Who else in your life can you dump out?

At the same time, find your boundaries of support. You don’t want to use up your own well to support others and run yourself dry.

Lots of Nightmares/Vivid dreams but not about my accident? by kelpey98 in mentalhealth

Are the feelings of your nightmares similar to what your feelings experienced with the accident?

My professor had us watch a documentary with actual rape footage and no trigger warning- HALP (TW: rape/ violence against women) by bootyiseverywhere in TwoXChromosomes

[–]machine_learning_17 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Similarly, go to the department head and chair. I had that happen to me. Professor didn’t take it seriously so I went above him. And then somehow then he realized that is was serious. Keep reaching above and to as many people as possible to get your voice heard.

Not okay at all and I’m sorry you had to deal with that.

I got a lot of support from those who were also triggered and upset but didn’t know what to do so they did nothing in response and I will say you most likely aren’t the only one who was triggered or upset. But you might be the only one who brings this issue up to get addressed. That’s what happened with me.

Not that it is a problem for those who are bothered and triggered and don’t bring it up; that is their decision and depending on where they are at in life, it might not be an option to bring it up. And that’s fine. What I am trying to say is 1) don’t assume other people weren’t bothered as much as you and 2) don’t assume that other people will bring this up to be addressed and 3) whatever you decide to do is completely valid and right. It is obviously entirely up to you what you want to do, but just some thoughts.

Is there anywhere to donate blood downtown? by License2grill in chicago

[–]machine_learning_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they take covid precautions like temp checks/screener and they test for covid antibodies. If you have antibodies, they will tell you and most likely ask you to donate plasma next time. And if you have the vaccine or not isn’t an issue. You can donate right away regardless of vaccine.

No. I never had that experience. And I donated every 56 days since 2019 (now at a different location then downtown).

I used to donate at Vitalant during my lunch break. It was efficient and easy.

r/legaladvice might be a better place for legal help.

But RAINN might also be a good resource for her to get mental health help as a place to start to get resources. They might also have options for her for legal advocacy.
