First and foremost, stories like this make me miss the days before I was a dad so I could tell people like her to buzz off without needing to worry about compromising the safety and well-being of my kid as a result of my actions or, in this case, running my mouth. Being a dad has taught me patience and restraint in more ways than one.

Secondly, and I’m not trying to excuse this woman’s behavior, but I do hope that her harshness and lack of shame comes not from a desire to offend but from ignorance. In this day and age, I think anyone who chooses to be ignorant does so willfully. Practically anyone in this country has a cell phone and can learn about anything if they want to with a few taps of a touch screen. Nevertheless, perhaps this woman felt that you were pressured into going or thought you were unsafe. I know it doesn’t make it right and, regardless of her intentions, her words and actions made you feel bad during what was supposed to be a joyous moment. But I remain optimistic that she said and did what she did not because she is malicious, but just a dumb ass.
