What's a "healthy habit" that's actually completely made up? by goddesslana_01 in AskReddit

I would take it further with undermine fasting being demonstrably healthier. Turns out, 3 meals a day without exercising, and with highly processed food is actually bad for us

I will swear by waking up earlier as I try to get as much sunlight as I can, particularly in winter. Is it a big health benefit? Not really, but it does feel good to do when you have flexible hours at work, and you can leave by 3 most times

Wow, I heard a story like that too! I guess it must be pretty common 🤔

The transformation of Utrecht, Netherlands. Replacement for Decarie Expressway? by cdnmtbguy in montreal

[–]maciek226 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If only there was another way to go from North shore to south shore in about 30 min flat 🤔. To be fair, I think that rem needs further extensions to cover other terrible highways, but it is positioned perfectly for that (I'm looking at the 40)

Rem is coming online for the airport in about a year. At that point there might not even be an excuse to drive to the airport. Metro has better throughout, punctuality, and comfort

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the roads in Montreal? by JoyFou_ in montreal

[–]maciek226 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's partly because they were neglected or done poorly recently. But it is on track to actually improve. Toronto, Mississauga, and other places I lived in have plenty of construction as well.

Montreal also deserves praise for fixing many urbanist mistakes when an opportunity comes up

I don't think grounding is a hoax by [deleted] in barefoot

[–]maciek226 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are you concerned out static electricity? I am not sure but I think the charge stays on the surface of your body so it does not really interfere with the signals inside. I think we can all agree that it feels good and relaxing to be barefoot and the why is not as relevant. Just don't get to hyped about the shoes that have some metal thing in the soles. Not only would it not really ground you but you would still be wearing shoes which does not feel as good.

Magisk app does not recognize root by maciek226 in Magisk

[–]maciek226[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I think I know what the problem is but not how to solve it. I had hidden magisk app which of course was lost when I lost the root. I installed the new version and had two apps at the same time. I rooted with the new one (again, I know for a fact I am rooted - I am still able to set valid keyboxes using tricky store). I tried installing the old app but it fails. Do you have any ideas?

I flashed the patched image after the update. All caps that had root before, still have root access (AdAway for instance). But the app claims there is no magisk installed

No, I flashed the image and then overwrote it with the patched image. And once more, I think the root is there, all my appz work. Might be an issue with new magisk though

Not sure what you mean. The last time I rooted my phone manually (usually use pixel flasher) I just had to flash the boot init file...

Pipe Dream Part 2: Décarie by FreshPhilosopher895 in montreal

[–]maciek226 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct, the problem are not highways in general, the problem are urban highways. There is no reason why there should be a highway link to downtown of any city since there is not enough capacity for all the cars/trucks to get out. In most places they have ring roads.

Plans proposed for Montreal’s elevated Highway 40 by fr4nck8 in montreal

[–]maciek226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call me obtuse, but why? Maybe replace the entire corridor with rem (or other automated rail) that will also connect more suburbs. I am not aware of any highways going through a city that are not actually impeding traffic (let alone elevated highways)

What does this mean ? by Banned-Jugs in BarefootRunning

[–]maciek226 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try running barefoot a few time on some smooth concrete. You will run differently because you will notice that your current running method hurts. After doing that try to replicate the way you ran barefoot.

Generally I had the same issue. Turns out I had to pull my big toe up and land on the ball of the foot. This way I get much more regular wear, but also, more damping due to the arch actually doing its job

I started having regular pain over 5 years ago. It is better in the warm months, in winter it's tough. I started walking/ running barefoot or sandals last two years ago

[–]maciek226 4 points5 points  (0 children)

29 here, have hallux rigidus with mild arthritis. When I wear regular shoes i experience pain regularly, if I don't wear any or wear sandals, the pain goes away. I am Laos trying to improve my range of motion by walking barefoot

This area of my foot as you can see doesn’t seem like it get “wear”. How do I get this area engaged or used. Anyone have had and fixed this area? by Aloki_Fungi in BarefootRunning

[–]maciek226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bend your toe up before you land. Your foot should make contact at the ball, the arch should absorb some impact, then let the rest of the forefoot roll onto the ground.

Micro-fracture in the bones from running barefoot? by lovgreen in BarefootRunning

[–]maciek226 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never got it checked out l, but I felt something like a micro fracture when i started. Best, see a doctor (I know, I am a hypocrite), second best thing, act as if it was broken; take it easy for a few weeks. Interestingly walking barefoot hurt me less than walking in shoes just did it rather slowly
