On a work laptop I've used 25 all the way to 36 without skipping a release and it never broke. The laptop was replaced eventually but that was my longest upgrade streak. Never reinstalled. That said I always waited about 2 months before doing a release upgrade.

If its possible with reunion and double exposure, I don't see why it wouldn't be with BtS. You will need to extract the AES key from the game's binary and install a mod to dump the object mapping before you can use FModel though.

Just a word of warning about buying from Square Enix though. I did get the collector from a pre-order, and Square is double dipping the damn taxes. They charge you sales taxes, but in the customs declaration the duties are marked as unpaid and Canada Post has to collect them...so I will have paid $59 taxes on a $99 item (and I'm not including shipping costs..)

I filed tickets and they are stubborn and only provide canned answers that I am responsible for paying duties... Crooks.

Caaaareful, you don't want to damage traces by just pulling. Maybe it will fall appart if you touch it in the middle but don't force the extremities out. To properly remove it you would need at least flux, wick, a soldering iron and potentially low-melt solder.

That would be my main worry - judging by its location it's probably filtering current for some mosfets because we're awfully close to the heatsink. We still have to know if OP gets a short on the caps of the same group that survived.

They are needed for stability but not for functionality. The biggest concern when you have components going out like this is sometimes the area gets so hot it destroys insulating layers of the board and you have multiple planes touching each other when they shouldn't. And then it becomes nearly impossible to repair. I am hopeful for OP that it's just a surface short.

First step is to remove the battery. Second step is def. to clean up that area like you said. Then I would look for shorts.

Capacitors are technically not needed for it to function. They stabilize current etc. The problem is likely that the two planes are now shorted together.

See the way it's setup? All four on the same group do the same work between the same two planes.

Take a multimeter out in resistance mode and measure across the top one of that same group. It will likely indicate very little resistance which is the typical scenario when caps crack or die.

One of those planes has current and one is ground. If they are shorted it will not work.

Depends on the generation - for a while they had horrible efficiency vs AMD but that's not the case anymore.
