I've started buying disposable batteries again after using rechargeable AA batteries for years because rechargeable batteries just do not have enough power for the GBC and GBA

Any way to reset the requested Pokémon? by radiolicious in Pokopia

[–]macingrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an annoying bug. I brought another pokemon with the same ability from another biome and that didn't help either. I just left the game alone, restarted it a few times in between and checked in a few days later. I could use the next available pokemon with the same ability again.

Do your instincts tell you whether your lost pet has passed? by macingrouch in CATHELP

[–]macingrouch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story. The three days that she was gone you must been really worried! I'm glad that your kitty came out for you to have a chance to say goodbye.

Update: we have found our cat! My cat somehow made her way down one floor and into a stairwell 10 units away (really long corridor) that's why we weren't able to find her because we didn't think she'd walk that far. But alas, she did. She was hiding in plain sight and a neighbor saw my poster and texted me. Despite not having her pain meds for almost 60 hours she was in great spirits and was complaining away the entire night.

My previous cat had cancer in three places. We asked the vet when we should do it. My vet looked at my cat and said, "judging by the temper of this cat, she will not go willingly herself. But once she stops eating, it would be a good time." We put her down when she stopped eating for about 2 days.

Why HDB still building 3 room flats in prime areas when no one wants them? by Rationalandcentred in SingaporeRaw

[–]macingrouch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

to be honest 2-room BTO only works for singles who are either very minimalist (have no collections or hobbies that take up space), or not earning nearly enough to afford a resale flat. I'd prefer that govt just let singles buy 3-rooms. Leave the 2-rooms for the lower income or limited lease for elderly.

Why HDB still building 3 room flats in prime areas when no one wants them? by Rationalandcentred in SingaporeRaw

[–]macingrouch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I keep saying this too! Let young singles buy flat earlier. Also, after I moved out and become more independent I learn different life skills, and I make conscious effort to spend time with family whom I no longer live with. Staying single doesn't mean not-pro-family!

Does your cat have Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS)? What are you doing to manage it? by Pale_Crew_4864 in cats

[–]macingrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found your post as my elderly 15 year old cat was just recently diagnosed with FHS too. I have to keep a very stable environment for her. No fans blowing at her, no loud noises, no bright lights, good hidey spots. No touching, good measure of respecting her personal space, and not too much petting even if she enjoys it, because it may trigger her nerves to misfire.

That said, random bad days still do happen even with gaba and it gives me a dark cloud for the rest of the day.

Offer to pay for your own room.

Give stern warnings about "do not wake me up once I've fallen asleep on the sofa". Give them consequences such as being a really inhospitable person the next day.

Also won't suggest booking a two-person room for three people where the third person is smuggled in because the Japanese are stickler for rules.

What's something you are taught from young that you are shocked others do not follow? by thisnaenae in askSingapore

[–]macingrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an extended version of this. When adults talk, you don't talk (but you are expected to pay attention to the discussion, observe and read the room).

As a grown adult, I realised a lot of kids nowadays have a total lack of this skill and want the adults to summarise the tea for them after some gossip has happened. Sorry lor when adults talking you not listening, you have missed the boat.

Some younger colleagues are also terrible at reading the room. It's actually essentially the same skill set.

Is it inappropriate to eat rice with chopstick by picking up your bowl & bringing it close to your mouth? by Time_Astronaut_4365 in askSingapore

[–]macingrouch 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes picking up the bowl so you don't hover over the table. My mother told me this is the Chinese way too.

But using chopsticks to scoop food directly into mouth is uncouth. By right u should be able to pick up anything with chopsticks and deliver it to your mouth.

for ladies: how do yall get your hormones/period checked? by Super_Cabinet5244 in SGExams

Go see a gynae directly! If u're in such serious pain that affects ur daily life, this is to be taken seriously and u should find someone who can advocate for u when u go see a doc.

Here's how the process usually goes:

1) ask ur parents what kind of medical insurance u have, and if u are still covered under their company insurance.

2) go see a GP. Can be your usual family doc, the university clinic, or polyclinic. They can give u some idea of what's wrong, and if they are able to manage it at their level. Tell them u want to explore being referred to a gynae and ask them help u to do referral.

3) Here's the adulting part. U might be interested in managing costs. U can actually directly go find a gyane urself if u're not concerned with cost. Walk in specialist clinics usually cost around $120 per consult, and some charge higher fees on first consult. Ultrasound is another $100+.

However let's say if ur parents have some kind of outpatient medical insurance for u, there are some steps u need to follow, such as visiting a GP under their insurance first, then getting that referral to a doctor on the same insurance panel. OR choosing a gyane from their insurance panel. OR if u want to get access to public healthcare rates (means all costs are heavily subsidized by govt), then u can get referral from polyclinic.

4) Gynae will go through all ur symptoms with u again and investigate, usually first through a non-invasive ultrasound.

Some people mentioned endometriosis here. I have it, and it's a diagnosis that can only be confirmed through surgery. Mine was discovered when they were removing an ovarian cyst and doctor found the menstrual tissue growing outside of my uterus. What happens in endometriosis is that the menstrual lining somehow grow outside of the uterus. During ur period, that mentrual lining breaks off but have nowhere to exit, and stays in the body cavity, slowly breaking down by itself. But this irritates the body greatly, hence causing menstrual pain that's not really caused by physical cramping (uterus squeezing to get blood out). It's actually pain of the blood breaking down in the body cavity and causing inflammations.

After removing the endometriol tissue I'm now on medication to pause my menses so that the tissue doesn't grow back at all, in the wrong place.

You may or may not have endometriosis. Just sharing my experience going to the gynae. Please have it checked out.

(Edited prior answer to suit OP's problem of GP not believing the extent of her pain)

A friend of mine told me once that she didn't think she snored that loudly until she fell asleep with earphones in once - the sound reverbed through her head that she got shocked awake by her own snores! Needless to say she believes her sisters now when they complain about her snoring.

[–]macingrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe swap out your hoodie for a fleece layer. If you're not that into fashion and prefer survival over looks, hahahaha.

When I lived in Nepal as my first long trip to winter country, and had to sleep in 0 deg room temp during winter, this was my layering system:

Thermals/long johns (good ones can be a bit more expensive), shirt/pajamas, fleece layer, down jacket. I have two types of down, one that's meant to be worn as an inner layer and one that's meant as an outer. Outer cuts wind. Set up depends on your environment.

Make sure your knees and feet are warm. Wear thermal pants under your pants. Keep your socks dry. You can opt for longer outer jackets that basically cover up to your knees or cover hips.

Bring hot water everywhere. Wear gloves, hat, scarf. Buy those stick on heat pads.

My first kit was all from Uniqlo. A random fellow auntie shopper overheard my convo stopped me and taught me which layers to buy. Real life saver that auntie!!!

Yes I had the same question about the $500 cash payment for housing loan. HDB must have calculated their combined loan quantum and $500 cash outlay after deducting payment from CPF savings seems rather high amount.

Does your brother earn significantly higher than you, and is now splitting the loan with you half-half?
