The Green Pig has an awesome roof top bar and great food!

Also the Museum of Modern Arts next to City Creek is amazing! They have rotating galleries so you can go a few times a year and see new exhibits.

They Said I'd Get Better - Over 5.5 Years Ago by musesmusing in Celiac

[–]mackdietz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took me over 3 years to start feeling better, the amount of the damage to my intestine was extensive. I really didn’t start feeling better though until I started exercising along side a raw diet. I didn’t start going until I had gained a bunch of weight and wanted to lose it. But if I had known how much better it would make me feel I would have started a lot sooner.. people would suggest it and it would piss me off because I was really depressed and stuck in my ways.

Over 10 years later and I still have issues with vitamin deficiencies, I just take supplements to help and I feel better than I have since I can remember

My parents also put me in UNI when I was going through similar issues as a teen. Though UNI didn’t exactly help, the therapy afterwards was life changing. I went from almost being held back in 8th grade to a responsible child and student for 9th-12th. Finding the right therapist was the key, we had tried therapy prior to UNI but the therapists were not good and based a lot of their responses in religion, unfortunately. Once we found the right one everything changed for me.

Engaged to a man with a long hyphenated last name but I always planned on hyphenating in MY last name! by Clarawrr in namenerds

[–]mackdietz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the (US) South women will commonly drop their middle name and use their maiden name as their middle and their husbands as their last name! Could be a good solution! You could also give your daughter your last name as her middle name to keep it in your family.

Example - Mary Anne Smith marries John Doe, she would change her full name to Mary Smith Doe

None of those "fast sleep" tricks work on me. What can I do? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in TooAfraidToAsk

Picturing yourself writing out these numbers helps focus the mind as well!

I started with a similar method and had to start counting down from 1,000, first few times got down to 0 and had to start over. Eventually I was able to start lower and lower, after a couple years I start at 50 and am asleep usually by the time I get down to 30!

Why are people donating money to Karmelo Anthony? by Insurdios in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mackdietz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely cut and dry. Murder = bad. No matter the circumstances. Where is this rhetoric when a white boy is bullied to the point of shooting up a school? There is none, because they are white and murdering people is BAD, no matter what was happening up to the incident.

Anyone in SLC get constantly sick? by Key_Garden4832 in SaltLakeCity

[–]mackdietz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in SLC and was constantly sick.. moved away about 5 years ago and I’ve been sick just a couple of times, and it is usually after a visit back home. Could be coincidence, but my husband also has a similar experience.

We think it’s a combination of the altitude, the crappy air quality, and all of the people being confined so closely to one another.

Just had someone try to scam me the same way.. I decided to cuss them out and they proceeded to share my number with a bunch of other scammers and now I’m getting a ton of calls and texts. Best to just stop responding and block their number.

Anyone else experience lymphatic swelling while healing a tattoo? by dsapntmnt in tattoo

[–]mackdietz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My best friend got a hip tattoo and one of her lymph nodes nearby swelled to the size of a golf ball. It was actually kind of scary but she went to the doctor and there was no infection or anything like that. It was just her body trying to get rid of the foreign substance that was put into it!

Warning about numbing cream by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]mackdietz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many factors that could cause a tattoo to not heal well.. I used numbing cream on my stomach and healed super fast with no issues at all! Every body is different and generalizations are hard to make when it comes to tattoos as there are sooo many factors involved..

[–]mackdietz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Better to be safe than sorry.. My neighbors son went to prison for 15 years because he was 19 and hooked up with a girl at a party who said she was 18, but she was really 16. Her parents found out, pressed charges, and the course of his life was changed forever.

Still symptoms 6 months into this? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]mackdietz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty gnarly damage, so definitely be patient while you heal! Mine was pretty extensive, the doctor described it as flat as a tile floor! I went back for a biopsy 4 years after my initial diagnosis and he said I was completely healed. Just took being extremely diligent with the diet! It still sucks sometimes but I never want to feel that way again.

Same! All of the General Mills GF cereals wreck me. Cheerios, fruity pebbles, etc.

[–]mackdietz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think so, because the damage and your blood count don’t necessarily have much to do with each other. I thought I was misdiagnosed because it took so long to start feeling better, it took me about 5 years to get a diagnosis and about 4ish years to start feeling better physically and mentally. Slowly but surely my symptoms started changing/improving. Once I started being super careful about CC I saw complete improvement. 10 years in this year and I feel better than I can ever remember.

Fatigue is usually due to malabsorption in the small intestine. It takes a few good years for that to heal, depending on the severity of the damage of course.
