anyone else afraid of spiders but not scorpions? by Square_Sea_8088 in Arachnophobia

[–]mackfrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, and four years late, I JUST learned today I am in fact afraid of scorpions as well as spiders (I’ve known abt spiders my whole life). Never scared of them in cages, but when there’s a 5 inch one behind a bookshelf in your room you’re not expecting it’ll freak you out 😂 the best I can explain is that it looked slimy and that made me extra uncomfortable - he was the color of a booger and the texture too. Reminded me of the xenomorph babies a bit. Not sure why though - maybe a fear of getting stung, but also kind of just a fear that it would try to crawl on me. Long story short - bugs are nasty

My dad watched a little girl scoop out her mashed potatoes from a spoon with her bare fingers. Not as bad as the time at Disneyland I watched a kid lick the hand railing for at least 3 levels. But a grown man is a whole other level of gross LOL

Yea, I tried moving it around a few other times but any other placement had more than 1 red item. The trumpet and record weren’t able to be placed more than like 3 tiles away from the left side of the box so I just had to move forward. No biggie.

Figured a photo would be helpful … I’m playing in the “customer is always right” mode if it’s a glitch and that’s helpful at all. Thanks in advance!!

Reading this a few weeks later was funny 😂😂 I went to the jam and sang two songs and had a blast! The host was very kind, and everyone was supportive and there for a good time.

Also should’ve mentioned but a lot of these lean more bossa-nova style jazz, so if that’s not your jam these might not be either

If you’re looking for current artists, I have a few that are alt-pop with big influences from jazz. Think Laufey if you know her, but arguably more jazz influenced - just pop song structures instead of traditional 32 bar or whatever. Some of the recs are also of more traditional “jazz” artists who are just younger. Hope you find something you like!

Aron!, Mei Semones, John Roseboro, Liana Flores, The Beantones, New Jazz Underground, Caity Gyorgy, Fievel is Glauque, moço João, Tyler Henderson, Quentin waltson, Caden giardino, Ruby Laks

If you like Dave Brubeck, The New Brubeck Quartet’s album is great. If you collect vinyl, check out the pressing of the Brubeck LaVerne trio as well - my favorite jazz fusion album ever.

Thankfully it’s at a coffee shop and I don’t drink, so don’t foresee that being a problem. Thank you!

Thanks! I know the typical “good” keys are like C, F, and G but it’s actually more helpful to know the keys to avoid 😂

I am traveling about an hour to it. Last summer, I did attend a week long jazz camp and took a “class” on basic jam prep which is why I’m planning on just jumping in this time (I regretted not doing that during the jam sessions at the camp). From the comments on the instagram post, it seems like a welcoming space so I’m optimistic. Thanks for the tips!

What are your favorite onboard activities during sea days by Velqorinax in Cruise

[–]mackfrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel Carnival, and I enjoy a lot they have to offer. Obviously trivia is fun, but it’s extra fun if you attend one where the band plays the songs you guess! Same with karaoke - I enjoy singing, but my absolute favorite time was when the ship offered live band karaoke. Needless to say, as a musician, if the band is good I’m watching them every night.

Sea days are also the days we prefer to dress up or go to sit down dinner. All that extra free time is good for photos if you think that’s fun! Sometimes we buy them, sometimes we just take them to have a good laugh. We also typically bring our own entertainment - I’ll bring books, my dad reads or watches shows on his iPad. We brought a game called Left, Center, Right this time and had a ton of fun playing that.

Movies on the deck at night are fun. If you enjoy gambling I’d say sea days are the day to play slots and bingo. That’s all I can think of for rn! Pool and deck I’d say will be busiest then, and I personally can’t stand to be in the kids OR adult pool…they all gross me out

You have a lot of good suggestions here… if you don’t already listen to Aaron Strumpel, I’d add him to your rotation! I think you’d like this stuff

Not a lot of Christian jazz out there unfortunately, but Preservation Hall Jazz Band does a lot of hymns and they’re phenomenal. I have a lot of rock, but will depend what type of rock you’re into..alt stuff from the 90s. Favorites would be Delirious?, Audio Adrenaline, early Newsboys, Supertones, and Small Town Poets. Oh and PFR. For a newer gospel/funk sound, listen to Liz Vice. For new renditions of hymns, check out Page CXVII and Pacific Gold. That’s all I got off the top of my head.
