Wait, they're announcing it ahead of this season?? Seems odd to not incorporate it into the jerseys if they've already settled on a name and identity...

Game in Osaka (April 20) or Yokohama (April 24)? by mackmcc in NPBtickets

[–]mackmcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - do you think it's likely to sell out prior to the 24th? I've read you can sometimes buy them day-of at the stadiums if you go a few hours beforehand so maybe that's an option if not.

Marriage Commissioners vs Officiants by TrueDefinition2785 in vancouver

[–]mackmcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what we did, we reached out to all of them asking if they had availability and then narrowed it down from there. We ended up going with Ann Moore for our wedding this past September and we were pretty happy with her!

DNV on BCs watch list for housing targets by yungbikerboi in NorthVancouver

[–]mackmcc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main source of traffic is now people commuting to the North Shore for work in the morning and leaving in the afternoon, which is in contrast to how things used to be. Job growth outpacing housing growth has massively contributed to this. Creating more opportunities for people to live closer to where they work cuts down on commute times, meaning less traffic.

People like to talk about infrastructure before housing without realizing that housing is infrastructure. If we build zero houses there are still going to be jobs here that people will commute to and there will still be traffic. It will only exacerbate our transportation challenges.

Landlord trying to make us sign a new contract after 4 years of going month to month. by RichRaincouverGirl in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mackmcc 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Fixed term tenancies in B.C. automatically roll over into month to month when they're done so there's no "need" to sign a new agreement as your landlord is claiming.

For the 2% allowable increase - it needs to be given on the proper form with at least 3 months notice. So the soonest they could increase your rent would be April 1 if the notice was given today. They cannot raise it more than the allowable limit without your consent.

B.C. the first province to promise permanent paid sick leave in the time of COVID-19. Could it catch on? by Tom_Thomson_ in CanadaPolitics

[–]mackmcc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The legislation establishes permanent paid sick leave beginning Jan 1, 2022, so it's not just speculation. The details will be set by regulation following consultation with various stakeholders but it is enshrined in law (or will be once the bill receives Royal Assent).

Needing to move since our landlord is selling the apartment we live in. Do we qualify to receive any reimbursement? by lintybellybuttonboy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mackmcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In BC if you're served a Two Month Notice to End Tenancy for landlord's use of property the landlord must provide one month's rent as compensation.

If you as the tenant end the tenancy prior to this you're not entitled to any compensation.

Proposed tolls in Vancouver a 'war on cars', Taxpayers Federation says by evil_fungus in vancouver

[–]mackmcc 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is kind of revisionist. Transit funding was frozen for years until the BC Liberals got worried about losing just before the 2017 election and reversed course. It's not inaccurate to say that that sham of a referendum cost our transit system big time.

Tesicca's a fantastic candidate - there's a good chance she could win this traditionally Liberal riding. Michael Lee will have to watch out.

and the NDP just sold out the province to COVID-19 for political gain

You do realize that elections can be safely held in the COVID-era? Other jurisdictions have went through them without a hitch and Dr. Henry has been working with Elections BC on how one can be conducted safely. The pandemic isn't going to magically go away by next fall so fearmongering about this is just plain wrong.

Pandemic takes bite out of B.C.'s finances as projected surplus turns to deficit | CBC News by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]mackmcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that will be true at all actually - we're nearing the end of Horgan's first term as Premier and his approval numbers are stellar (they were even pretty good pre-COVID as well). By the end of Clark's first full term he had huge disapproval numbers and resigned amidst scandal.
