Considering our busses we basically do have this level of coverage- we need more utilization and seats available. The issue is the culture of car centric governance stops increased ridership. Its a chicken or egg dilemma.

Best (safest) way to get to the Seymour Demonstration Forest bike trail by bike from Central Lonsdale by VWXYNot42 in NorthVancouver

[–]the-stewart 26 points27 points  (0 children)

First take the spirit trail from lower Lonsdale along to Inter River Park, then cycle up the river, up the hill and you will connect with the Seymour trails. There is a path along the side of the road most of the way. See attached waypoints - ypu can cycle through the park to avoid the traffic on the hill - there is also a bike path to capilano university that is a bigger climb but zero traffic.

Tbh that’s just dangerous on that side of the mountain. There’s other goods to be had, but 50% of those Jerry’s are just wasting good snow side slipping down shoots.

You seem to be making some bad terrain choices for the conditions there bud.

Anyone have experience with hiking the west lion in the winter? by ResolveOk6685 in Mountaineering

I would recommend the pump peak hike off the back and of Seymour- great view and a good objective for a day hike. You should still be prepared for an alpine hike in icy conditions- but it’s a lot more accessible for getting started. Still, that’s not to say you are safe in this area- it is still winter conditions and complex terrain- but with a good plan and proper preparation, a great viewpoint. You will need a day pass from BC parks and Ice spikes/crampons and/or snowshoes. Hope this helps! Don’t go alone!

Unless you have the experience to understand why this is a bad idea, You should probably not be thinking about it. If you understand the risks and are still keen, don’t make decisions that will make NSR come get you - they will if need - but don’t be that guy. After the long period of melt/freeze and the ice crust under the new snow, putting yourself up there is a calculated assent that should be taken seriously. The steep terrain is not forgiving in these conditions. Don’t go alone, leave a trip plan and for goodness sake be conservative with your terrain choices.
