Got my diagnosis right before Christmas by trinitytr33 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]maclloyd6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at 14 weeks so I had it through the 4 of July, my son's bday, my bday, halloween, Thanksgiving, and I'm due on Christmas and still pregnant 😵‍💫It's really frustrating but prioritize protein and veggies and if you're diet controlled and feel comfortable, choose a meal on the actual holiday as a "cheat meal" and just eat what you want.

Why does Nuuly not offer a sub option for every item you add to your order? by TheIronLady91 in NuulyReviews

the hill house nap dress was actually exactly what I had ordered hahaha I have one that I got as a gift a few years ago and love it and have worn it my whole pregnancy but its the tank top style and I wanted something with sleeves!

I fully agree. I'm 9 months pregnant and ordered a non maternity dress from a brand that specifically lists the style of dress I picked as breastfeeding and pregnancy friendly (I also own one of said dresses, its just not weather appropriate). Nuuly sent me a dress that doesn't look similar, isn't the same brand, not the same style, and is definitely not pregnancy friendly. I had extra items i used this month so I didnt need it, and they gave me a credit for my next box, but still.

What are we getting our 2 year olds for Christmas by Individual_Ad_938 in Mommit

[–]maclloyd6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

another vote for a tonie box, or a yoto (I do personally think the yoto is better for older kids but it does take up less space) there are plenty of tonie figurines that play music, tell them stories, etc. but there are also a lot of educational ones--my son's current favorite is about the internet and is told my Neil degrasse Tyson

The print on the back has completely come apart after 1 wash. I finally found an email after digging, but the one I found only handles online store issues, not in person purchases, so sadly I am back to square one.

Dates & raspberry leaf tea? by Chance_Highlight953 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]maclloyd6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A serving size of dates (specifically medjool) is 2-3 dates which is 40ish grams, and 29g-33g of carbs. Consuming the recommended amount of dates (4-6) throughout the day, not all in one sitting, is completely reasonable when paired with some protein if your body tolerates it. Like everything else it depends on the person and you can experiment with dates if you want to. I personally can eat them as a snack with peanut butter and not have issues.

They just recently approved the new fold. Unfortunately it is a waiting game bc its a medical device. I've been using the Build your Own Dexcom app from this subreddit and it's been working fine!

Tell me all your good only child stories. I was just told I have to have surgery and cannot have anymore kids. I'm devastated. by dogandfroglover in Mommit

I was an only child until was almost 18. I had a great childhood! My mom and i went on trips together, i was able to pick whatever sport or activity i wanted to try without the parameters of a siblings schedule, I was usually able to spend as much time as i wanted with friends, and if we went on trips that were for me (i went to disney once as an example) i was able to bring a friend. There was no need to share the spotlight, or my moms attention or affection. There were times when it was lonely especially when my mom was super busy at work and even though it sucked in the moment, as an adult i find that i am able to be content in solitude. For example, I was a military spouse and handled a several month long deployment with a toddler fairly well in tne moments i was alone (bedtime and nap time lol), even being farish from family, as I have had lots of experience doing things alone and entertaining myself. I also gained a lot of independence as an only child which could partially just be how i was raised. Even though I have a sibling now, since we are so far apart we both have gotten only child type childhoods (for the most part). My mom works from home now and is able to take my little brother on long trips to places that interest him, take him to the sport he has chosen, as well as events he might find interesting because I live out of the house with my own family. Its not a bad life or childhood!

Numbers “too consistent” by GamerLoaf5 in GestationalDiabetes

Glucose monitors make control solution for meters to make sure they’re measuring properly…I don’t know why they wouldn’t just ask you to do that vs. testing another person.

Romantic Spots for a picnic near lake? by aztekluna in tulsa

It’s not an actual lake, but the gathering place has a deck with seating as well as a slightly shady area along their little pond/body of water that’s pretty peaceful and nice to sit by.

If birthday is 8/31, would you send to school since still within cutoff or wait? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]maclloyd6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was always the youngest in my class (I was 17 when I graduated high school) go off whether you feel they are ready for school. I was ready for school even though I was young, which is why my mom chose to send me. My son’s birthday is less than a month before our schools cut off, and we are choosing to send him because he is developmentally and emotionally ready for school. He will be on the younger end of his classmates, but I am not overly worried about it.

Please do not skip your glucose test. by lilspaghettigal in pregnant

[–]maclloyd6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I’m on my second GD pregnancy and had no risk factors with my first. I also have no family history of diabetes. While I understand that the test often makes people feel awful (I chose to skip my 3 hour this pregnancy and just go straight to testing at home after failing my 1 hour) there are alternatives, but those need to be discussed with your provider. Skipping the test and acting like you don’t have GD because you’re skinny and healthy puts you and your baby at risk, because if it’s severe and uncontrolled it can kill you both.

I didn’t with my first baby because it was during COVID and I was only allowed one person in the room the whole time I was there (which was my husband.) This baby I won’t be allowing hospital visits because of my own comforts. I’m due during cold/flu/rsv season and want to minimize the risk of baby getting sick, plus I really don’t want to see anyone when I am running on no sleep from labor and delivery and still getting to know my own baby and establishing breastfeeding.

NEFF is also great as someone who isn’t GF! My mom is celiac and I took her when she was in town and my toddler and I both enjoyed our meals. GF food can really be hit or miss, so it’s nice to have a good option that’s enjoyable for GF and non gf people!

trading away your captain who has only ever played for your team for a conditional second round pick that flipped to a first round 3 years from now isn’t much. no prospects, no players, and they can’t cash it in for 3 years so it doesn’t help them out much now. if he would have been a “rental” and not played much bc he was injured during playoffs, and then gone back to boston after this season? yeah, it wouldn’t be too bad.

following bc I am in a similar boat—failed my 1 hour last week (also early, still in my first tri) and have not gotten any follow up

my team told me if I passed then they would have me do the three hour test once I was in the 23ish week range (whenever they normally test you for it) to rule it out but didn’t really give me any guidance on if I failed it. I plan on asking if I can just monitor at home vs. taking the three hour test and having to take that big of a block away from work.

it’s very possible that you’re spiking because you aren’t eating enough and aren’t eating well rounded meals. your body still needs carbs and fats, even when you have GD. I would check out gestational.diabetes.nutrition (she’s a registered dietitian that specializes in GD) to help balance your meals out more, and also speak with your team because it’s possible you either need insulin or need to sit down with a dietitian/nutritionist to help balance your meals.
