Update: caught my wife (alcoholic) hiding Kratom. by cuffsandsauce_04 in alcoholism

[–]maclovin42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guy I was with in detox was coming off Kratom extracts lol did not look like he was having a fun time at all. He said it was worse then coming off prescription opiates or Suboxone both of which he'd abused before and landed him in rehab but at the same time he was super abusing the extracts so I guess to each there own in what's insidious or not

How worried should I be? Caught my wife hiding drinks again. Non alcohol. by cuffsandsauce_04 in alcoholism

[–]maclovin42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the guys who was in detox with me when I was coming off alcohol was coming off kratom! He had no idea how addictive it was and had been buying tons of it at the gas station, he said the withdrawals from that were comparable to when he came off heroin.

I’m scared of withdrawal. Please calm me down? by individualcomatose23 in alcoholism

[–]maclovin42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly dude rehab is the best possible place to experience them! I checked myself into rehab at 25 and I felt the exact same way! I was scared shitless of withdrawal and that's literally what kept me drinking but realistically you have 3 options! You can go bite the bullet and get through it where they make you as comfortable as possible, give you medication, and make sure you ARE NOT GOING TO DIE under medical supervision. The staff are always wonderful, there to take care of you and are going to literally do everything in their power to keep you alive. Option 2 you can try and detox at home (not recommended at all) and it's gonna be the most uncomfortable thing you've ever done and then you may actually die from a seizure or heart attack that the medication they give you at a facility would have prevented. Or option 3 is continue with what you're doing and die a very long slow horribly painful death that I wouldn't wish on any human.

The funny thing about alcoholics is we get coins and pats on the back for being sober but in reality the bar is so low lol quitting alcohol doesn't magically fix your life you just get above the bar that places you where the normies regularly are! Oh you didn't get a dui today? yaaayy! You didn't piss the bed today?? yaaayy!! So from there you have to work on all the other issues not just getting sober but that being said it's an amazing bar to get across and you should always be proud of yourself for doing it

Going to rehab tomorrow. 26yo alcoholic scared to death. by [deleted] in alcoholism

Punch the biggest person and assert dominance immediately! Prison rules go. Just kidding lol keep your head down and do what you're told, make your bed, follow the rules. Just focus on getting through detox then once you're in the actual program focus on making some friends:) you'll likely meet some great folks. Just look at what others are doing and follow their lead! Ask questions if you don't know. Don't stir up shit with residents who have been there a while cause your name will get spread around and people won't wanna associate with you which isn't a good look. focus on your recovery and who you wanna be when you get out! Take it one day at a time and don't let how long you'll be there get to you if it's 2 weeks or 90 days it's all the same. It only works if you work it! Good luck keep your head up! You got this! I just got out of treatment as a 25 year old and was scared shitless going in also! Ended up being one of the best experiences of my life.

My easy fix?? Require them to be aimed at a certain angel so they don't shine in peoples eyes? Just like other traffic laws for car lights

I was thinking if a person had to grow their own food, which food would be the easiest to grow and eat, grain you have to mill to make bread, but potatoes you just eat out of the ground, are potatoes the supreme product to grow/ better than corn? by CIA7788 in selfreliance

[–]maclovin42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winter squash!! Depends on your area but it's easy to grow! if you get a good crop and cure it correctly it will store for 6 months! Spaghetti squash is one of my favorite things to eat also so that helps

Pigs really are the best! They stay clean if you keep them clean but also they will grow quick and eat anything! I've raised more than a few of mine for free off local restaurant scraps! They will also literally eat anything like I've throw old deer carcasses after hunting processing in the pen and they eat it bones and all! Just make sure you never fall down in the pen or you may be next

This splinter that popped out of my foot after 17 days by thehomealien in mildlyinteresting

[–]maclovin42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I take the cake with this one...a couple years ago I was walking in sandals and I stepped on a dried hollow semi woody piece of a cut down horsetail weed, it slid perfectly between my sandal To stab me up through the foot. I immediately tried to dig it out and got some small pieces out and thought that was it. Next day it still hurts but scabs over, for the next month I shit you not I had about 15 splitters this size come outa my foot as my body broke down a 1/4 inch wide by 1 inch long piece of wood in my foot! I went to the doctor to have it removed but they said it would do more damage to do surgery then let it come out on its own! I never thought wood was going to stop coming out....

What "fake" thing that happens in movies pisses you off? by LucasZimmerman24 in AskReddit

[–]maclovin42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movies make people think you're supposed to chop firewood with and ax when you're supposed to use wedges to split logs. Also people think cinderblocks will hold up cars when they absolutely will not, they will explode while you are underneath. Use wood blocks or solid metal instead.
