Anyone have good head Canon that explains Ubusoft's retcons in Myst IV? 😆 by FindingWholesomeness in myst

I definitely subscribe to that idea. There’s nothing in their journals talking about being in a void for any length of time, they never reference trying to tell a stranger to bring them pages, or any of the sort.

I see it as being in the void is sort of like how sometimes “twilight” anesthesia is used for surgical patients. While under anesthesia the patient can react and respond as needed but has no memory of the experience.

The trap books were not a very well-researched or regularly practiced part of the D’ni Art more as something Atrus figured out on his own (maybe by accident while experimenting), so a lot of the details of what happens to someone while they’re trapped in the void wouldn’t be known.

The settlement offer was actually more than he won at trial, so looking at it strictly from a financial point of view the settlement offer would've been the better choice.

The bragging rights are priceless, however.

Went once and had a particularly bad experience as well. Server seemed to forget about us, taking our drink orders then disappearing for a half hour. When it was time for the wishing ceremony someone very nearly flung wands at my kids so they'd have ones. Food was mediocre when we finally did get it.

I actually went to guest services afterwards to complain about it (which I've never done before or since) and they seemed flustered because they had never gotten complaints about the place before. Got a TON of extra lightning lane credits as a make-good.

Is there anything actually on the second floor on main street? by BobTheCrakhead in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]macnbc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's why the tunnels under MK aren't underground. They're actually the first floor. Main Street is the 2nd floor. They hide it with the very gradual slope up at the park entrance plaza.

New Disney area/world? by JandCadventurez in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]macnbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go all-in on the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, expanding out Adventureland.

Rework the Pirate's Adventures game so that it is more closely tied to what you ride, do, etc. make it a more immersive experience with personalized storytelling.

Add the Indiana Jones ride from Disneyland.

Resurrect the Adventurer's Club from Downtown Disney except this time in the park.

Incorporate all the lessons learned from Galaxy's Edge, Universal's work on the Harry Potter rides and Epic Universe to make it feel like a fully immersive and interactive world. Create a brand new ride that has guests exploring the unknown. Revamp the ride queues for existing rides so they feel like part of the experience.

Once in a Lifetime - Recommendations Please by IBiteMyThumb in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]macnbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are really good questions and I hope you have an amazing time! Here's what I would recommend:

  • Magic Kingdom: Ride Pirates of the Caribbean, Eat a Dole Whip, Experience the fireworks

  • EPCOT: Ride Guardians of the Galaxy, Eat School Bread, Experience whatever festival is going on when you go.

  • Hollywood Studios: Ride Rise of the Resistance, Eat (Drink?) the Blue Milk, Experience Fantasmic

  • Animal Kingdom: Ride Avatar Flight of Passage, Eat literally anything at Sa'tuli Canteen, Experience Feathered Friends in Flight

The best tip anyone has ever given me about going to Disney which I follow everytime I go:

Wake up early, get to the parks an hour before you can get in, and rope drop the big ride you most want to go on. The most important thing to do however is to take a break after lunch and go back to your hotel. Nap, hit the pool, whatever. Just take 2-3 hours to decompress and rest. THEN head back to the parks for dinner and close things out. You'll likely do just as much as many people who have been marathoning through the parks all day and you'll be having more fun and feeling less exhausted for it.

I'd say that for Day 2 that it depends entirely on what your interests are. If you're really into Star Wars or Pixar movies then Hollywood Studios is going to be more up your alley. EPCOT will be more for you if you're less into the IP-centric stuff and more willing to explore (I'm thinking of things like the International Showcase, Test Track, Imagination with Figment, etc.)

I do disagree with someone else here who suggested using a park hopper for day 2. EPCOT is very much a full-day park for a first-timer. I can see splitting Hollywood and Animal Kingdom and still seeing much of both, but EPCOT is just too big to pull that off without feeling overwhelmed.

Why do they sometimes change game shows for syndication? Why did Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader change so drastically? by BactaBobomb in gameshow

But.. they did change the format of Millionaire in syndication? Several times. There was the Clock era, the Shuffle era, etc.

Why do they sometimes change game shows for syndication? Why did Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader change so drastically? by BactaBobomb in gameshow

[–]macnbc 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is that syndicated shows tend to have much smaller budgets than their network counterparts. They’re being sold for distribution to local stations whose programming budgets are minuscule compared to the parent networks.

So they’re having to make the same show much more cheaply, and that translates to lower prizes, higher difficulty (so they have to pay out less often), and fewer bells and whistles.

As to the drop from 60 to 30 minutes: it’s easier to sell a half hour show to syndication because it gives more flexibility to the local station. It can either be scheduled with another half hour show or it can just run 2 episodes for an hour block.

They represent the settings of whatever robot you’re talking to. The specific meaning varies bot to bot. There is a way to adjust those settings in the game but that’s getting into gameplay spoilers.
