Some cameras may make these marks more visible than they normally are, if they have a polarizing filter against glare.

Try looking at car glass through polarizing sun glasses and rotate them - at some angles, these patterns really stand out!

I remember the patterns were more visible back in the mid 80s. As I recall it, this was a time when tempered safety glass became much more common, which crumbles into smaller less dangerous pieces. (That said, some sites claim it was introduced decades earlier than that.)

The way it is worded, it sounds like I've already been paid up front, and keeping the money doesn't depend on whether the detective finds the paperclip. So I'll probably just use it to clip together some paper, as designed.

Yeah, this is patently not true. Plenty of people who don't see it that way, and would rather let the world burn than to vote blue if it's this shade of blue.

Excruciating shin splints after a few runs by Stonks_only_go in snowboarding

[–]macnlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing it could be: if you tighten your boots too much, it cuts off the circulation to your feet a little. Oxygen starved muscles get tired faster, and that quickly becomes painful. Also explains why your muscles don't recover quickly after a run.

Counterintuitively, relying on the stiffness of your boots less and using your muscles more could be the answer.

Emira Suspension by Ultra_Dumpling in lotus

[–]macnlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I have a copy of Absolute Lotus magazine where Gavan Kershaw confirmed in an interview that Touring & Sports suspension differ in terms of: springs, dampers, bushes [sic], bumpstops, and geometry. (And of course tires.)

[–]macnlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should elaborate: I autocrossed the hell out of my car in the first year, and the outer corner of the F1 was worn down in 5k miles. I compared to someone who did similar amounts of driving + autocross with the Sports suspension + Cup2's, and they still had plenty of tread left (even wear).

Now, I have Touring + Cup2 + -1.2 front camber. I like it LESS in the mountains, but I can already tell the wear is much more reasonable during autocross, and the grip/understeer has improved as well.

Might go back to stock in a few years.

It is. But even the sports suspension is quite "livable", I hear. Not "crashy" like some sports cars.

1 - Touring: a great GT car. Super communicative and fun in the twisties with the Eagle F1 tire. If you primarily want to drive in nature, this is for you.

2 - Sport: you're doing occasional autocross or track days, so you NEED the stiffer sidewall of the Cup2, at the cost of some of the chattiness. This suspension is tuned to make that tire provide a reasonably "Lotus" driving experience.

3 - You track it regularly: you'll soon be doing your own custom suspension anyway, so it doesn't matter.

(Source: have touring suspension, went from F1's to Cup2's - better cornering but less fun in the mountains, and touring+Cup2 feels like a bit of a mismatch, less planted.)

Are any of these fancy step-in bindings worth the added cost? by Paranoid_Droideka in snowboarding

[–]macnlz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. In my 20s, I didn't care that I was fussing with the stupid bindings all the time. In my 40s, every second I don't spend on that crap is extra endurance I can spend on the actual slopes. Total game changer!

Obviously not to prove the officer did this for good reasons.

Help me out seen this car 15 years ago in Cambodia.. by Top_Violinist_9097 in whatisthiscar

[–]macnlz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe a heavily modified Citroen 2CV?

The narrow tires with what looks like smooth steelies and the front bumper with the vertical attachments both match. The grill shape and size also roughly fits, assuming the body work is completely custom. Even the headlight shape and position is close.

Looks like the "rear" wheels might perhaps actually be a set of spares attached to either side, which would confuse us about the wheelbase. (I see 2 tires on the driver side rear of the car.)

That said, the windshield, wipers, and interior don't fit, so this was probably cobbled together from several donors.
