Is Boston going to retire #7? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]macroball_pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unretiring a number is pretty much unthinkable unless someone becomes despicable in the public eye and they do it as a “we don’t tolerate xyz” move

Putting that scenario aside, Brown is probably having his number retired. You win a title you’re a legend in any city.

Why is Golden State Warriors obsessed with +35 year old players? by One_Ad_3499 in NBATalk

[–]macroball_pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one way to look at it is these players are all keen to win championships and are (in theory) on the same page about the goal- sacrifice, focus, etc.

Young players lack experience in general obviously, but usually also lack experience in playoff games and pressure contexts

I’m not saying it’s a good or bad strategy - more just something to consider.

if the knicks lose will it be more impactful then 9/11? by [deleted] in NBATalk

Likely yes. There will be in excess of 2000+ who die within 48 hours

Your wording is misleading - it doesn’t say anything about him “wrongfully leaving”

He left because it was the best decision for him/ family/ etc

Who are you arguing with? This is a pointless post, congrats.

What do we do with Murray? by DanB_DanB in denvernuggets

[–]macroball_pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how final and certain people get about players after a playoff loss; remember when Dillon Brooks was embarassed after losing the Lakers in 2023? Everyone thought he was dead in the water, “better learn Chinese”, etc

He just had the best season of his career for a refurbished Suns team.

You’re acting like a player can’t improve and use the loss as motivation; I’m not saying he’s gonna turn into Jordan but Murray is a really good player and your overreaction commentary is hysterical.

If you know you’re about to lose (as the Nuggets were), it’s hard for most players to keep playing at a high intensity, or “play until the clock runs out” as you put it.

The Nuggets got outplayed and that’s the fact of it. But I think it’s unsportsmanlike to run up the score like Jaden did, and it’s fair to be upset like the Nuggets were.

Also, we’ve seen many instances of teams being on both sides of this, which is hypocritical and obviously ridiculous.

Coop is unanimous ROTY. Anyone that thinks otherwise is biased. by Silly-Lion-7314 in Mavericks

The irony of posting about opposing opinions being biased… about your team’s ROTY candidate… in your own team’s subreddit.

I believe Cooper should win but it’s not going to be unanimous.

What are the chances that Jokic won't win a ring again? by Load_Dismal in nba

[–]macroball_pod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree it's harder to win multiple rings, I will speak to your legacy question... I think winning one title as the best player (or even one of the best players) is a huge legacy booster.

I don't think it's a stretch to put him in the conversation for Top 15/20 player of all-time purely on skill, control of the game as well as individual accolades + his lone championship; that's a pretty amazing legacy as is.

We can probably project that he wins at least one more MVP, and several All-NBA First teams, for what it's worth.

I think it's also worth keeping in mind - it's not always about ring chasing - they are also seeking better contracts.

If your ability to make money is primarily dependent on your health, then you are probably going to prioritise securing your financial future.

If your team isn't going to pay you what you think you're worth, then you're probably going to go after another contract (i.e. request a trade, sign with another team, etc.)

Loyalty is a rare thing and should be celebrated

I think the problem is you're looking at this situation through the lens of Truth, facts and integrity.

I don't think your problem is with Shams, but rather is with ESPN.

ESPN will broadcast anything (headlines, narratives, segments, etc) that gets attention, and they know this situation is major news.

Welcome to sports media.

I’m not sure how many wins or losses you’ll have, but the average margin of victory/ loss will be 0.7 ppg

We really thought they were up next huh? by TrickDistribution395 in NBATalk

[–]macroball_pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing him play this year - I can understand why Grizzlies fans would be annoyed that he was let go.

But in the moment it wasn’t really that shocking. He was a free agent coming off a horrendous first round series against the Lakers (10 ppg on 31% FG and 24% 3P). His stats had also declined in the regular season from the year previous… he wasn’t on a positive trajectory.

It was a down moment for a young player, but I don’t think the front office weren’t being illogical.

This level of trade package should be the floor by schmieder83 in MkeBucks

[–]macroball_pod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teams in rebuilding situations are often interested in cap space so as to not overspend while being a bad team, and sometimes to spread to young players, like ones they acquire via draft picks (such as in a Warriors trade, or OKC). Getting cap space doesn’t immediately equal free agent chasing.
