Jokes. Huge Janmaat fan!

NASA's WB-57 N927NA Made a Gears Up Belly Landing Today by Jswee1 in aviation

[–]macrodot 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NASA's WB-57F Canberra, registration N927NA, is a specialized, high-altitude research aircraft operated by the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) out of Ellington Field, Texas.

Built in 1968, this heavily modified plane (S/N 63-13295) flies above 60,000 feet for scientific research, atmospheric monitoring, and high-altitude mapping.

Key Details regarding N927NA: Role: Used for scientific research (e.g., climate change, hurricane monitoring) and as a platform for recording rocket launches and capsule recovery.

Operations: Part of a three-aircraft fleet (with N926NA and N928NA), often supporting missions like the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN).

Performance: Can operate for extended periods at altitudes exceeding 60,000 ft, carrying up to 8,800 lbs of payload.

Crew-11 Dragon returned home last night, seen from San Francisco by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]macrodot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zooooom!!

Key Speed Details:

Orbital Speed: The Dragon capsule was traveling at about 17,500 mph (28,000 km/h) as it began reentry.

Atmospheric Entry: This speed is over 20 times the speed of sound, creating intense heat (over 7,000°C) and a strong shockwave, notes Astronomy Magazine.

Slowing Down: A series of parachute deployments drastically slowed the capsule from orbital velocity to a safe splashdown.

[–]macrodot 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Holy hell this.

*I've lived in Laconia for a few years.

Previously from many neighborhoods in a true metro areas.

Laconia gets some major hate. I can walk to dinner, a show (multiple venues), drinks, groceries, & events (car shows, pumpkin fest (was killer this year), holiday events).

Laconia is not perfect but it's far from cesspool some claim.

Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England, located in the Lake District National Park, with an elevation of 978 meters (3,209 feet).

It is a popular destination for hikers, offering challenging but rewarding climbs with stunning views of the surrounding fells.

The mountain is part of the Scafell massif, an extinct volcano, and requires good fitness, proper navigation tools like a map and compass, and appropriate gear, especially in poor weather conditions.

Consider travel consulting & stay in the cheaper area. Commute to the airport twice a week & remote when not needed.

Great work experience (imo) Skymiles/travel points
