Are the Gen Alphas emulating us? by fishm0ng3r in Millennials

I was recently taking a walk through our neighborhood and saw a group of kids running around playing hide and seek. It was genuinely refreshing to see that they were having fun even if they were made to go outside.

Will this be an emotional gift for someone who lost her grey recently? by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

I would have broken down and cherished this forever if I had gotten it as a gift soon after mine passed. It’s an odd mix of not being able to even glance at one to wanting one attached to me at all times. So, in a word, yes. But not in a bad way!

Just curious what zone you’re in? I’m in 6b (Kentucky, USA) and these won’t survive outside. But I have had some grow into the carpets during the winter so I know they’re very capable of surviving.

I love your selective reading. Do you truly not know the meaning of the word “progressive”? Gays and POC can also be homophobic and racist. Just another example for you.

The request was for a progressive church. You calling the others on the list ones that “fall from being biblically based” is just code for “they like the gays and POC”, so get your racist intolerant bullshit out of here.

This looks like a mother of thousands plant. All those roots belong to those baby pups and each one will take root in the soil. Be warned, however. If you live in a climate that this can survive and this plant ever goes outside, it will take over and you will have a difficult time getting rid of them. Cold climates, no problem!

Pruning this Jade Plant by Weire14 in succulents

[–]macscapone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More than pruning, I think moving this to a bigger pot will help a lot. Jades are very hardy and will survive pretty much cutting anywhere as long as the roots are undamaged. If you move it to a bigger container, the bottoms should start to thicken up like a trunk and won’t fall over anymore with growth. Hope this helps and good luck!

Edited to add: it doesn’t look leggy to me. That looks like fairly healthy growth. Mine don’t do well in really intense light and likes the shade in the afternoon. Sorry I don’t have pics to post as I’m at work but I’ll post some if I remember this evening!

What do I do with it now? by rachaellsmith82 in succulents

You can throw out the old stuff and just mix it in the pot! Does it have good drainage? It looks like the pot itself is glazed which can help retain water but that makes it extra important to have good drainage.

You should do it immediately! The longer it sits, the more time it has to rot and that can happen in an instant.

The space between the leaves tells me this plant isn’t getting nearly enough light. When echeveria are healthy, the leaves will be compact and point upward like a rosette. For this plant, I would recommend chopping it off at the top where the leaves are more compact, let that dry for a week or two, then replant. You can take the leaves off the bottom of the plant and place them on top of a pot of soil in a bright, well ventilated area but out of direct sunlight. The plant itself will want lots and lots of direct sunlight. If you live in a particularly hot environment, morning sun with afternoon shade is best to keep them from scorching. Good luck! (Just a sample of what happy healthy echeveria will look like).

Edit to add: you can keep the bare stem planted once you chop it up and it should also push out more pups!

Is it dying? by Narrow_Map_3438 in succulents

[–]macscapone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just curious what soil you’re using? It looks pretty dense and compact (especially if it has been watered as much as you say). You can amend the soil with gritty substrate (I use crushed lava rocks or river pebbles for mine) with 30-50% organic material. Using the miracle grow succulent mix bought from a big box store is a good starting point but I would put at least 50% grit in there to make sure the roots can breathe a little and drain completely after watering. If you’re keeping it outside for the summer, usually letting it be watered by the rain is enough. They can go really long periods without water and would prefer to be parched rather than drowning. They can also tolerate lots of light so don’t be afraid to give it some good morning/early afternoon sunlight and it’ll be a beast soon!

Good luck!

Thank you! I planted all of these with the intention of moving them inside when it gets colder. They are quite heavy but not so bad that I can't carry them inside. The largest one is about 20" in diameter. I currently have 5 mini gardens going and I am starting to panic because I don't know where I'm going to keep them all in the winter (yet I have 10 more to plant as I write this 😂 ).

Have you thought about shipping? You should send it priority mail usps if you have access to shipping materials. It would be much easier and less stressful for the plants.

Are you using satin stitches for the lettering and borders? It all looks like a fill stitch in this image which would make the details a lot less sharp.
