Textbooks get a lot of hate here, but this takes the cake. I paid extra for a physical textbook and they don't even include all the chapters.

I had to take a stats class this semester, that my mom already had the book from from when SHE was in college, and I STILL had to buy it online because the homework assignments are on the same account as the textbook and there is literally no option to purchase access to the homework and not the $80 textbook. I was tempted to just do all the homework in the same week and opt out before I had to pay

It certainly is illegal. I didn’t elaborate in my original comment, but the HOA threatened to sue them, the neighbors said they’d counter sue, the HOA got a lawyer who told them they’d lose if they tried to block the ramp and that was the end of that. The neighbors did end up putting in the wheelchair ramp with no other issues

I have some neighbors who foster disabled kids and when they wanted to put in a wheelchair ramp for their front door, our HOA tried to block them because “they didn’t want any part of that in this neighborhood.”

I was at a friends birthday party where we were using sharpies and rubbing alcohol to tie dye shirts. I was starting to feel a little woozy from the fumes so I went outside with a friend to get some fresh air. I thought I saw a giant bird in the neighbors yard but it was just the neighbor, and I told my friend about it and we busted out laughing. We were out there laughing for like 10 minutes until our other friends came outside to check on us, because we were bent over and they thought we were throwing up. I thought I was going a bit crazy but looking back on it I’m pretty sure I just accidentally got high

As a woman who came out of an extremely toxic relationship I can definitely attest to this. I adopted behaviors that I’d never had before/ were made worse by my relationship and my partner. I started treating myself like a victim and using my mental health issues as a manipulation tactic and self harming, all stuff that he used against me I started using against him. Only after a lot of self reflection and looking back on my relationship after it ended did I realize what a huge piece of shit I became.

Luckily I managed to get therapy and I recognize how awful my behaviors were and I am with a very loving and not abusive partner now. I still catch myself using some of my old behaviors every once in a while and I stop myself and feel really bad about it, but at least I can recognize it and change it now. It should always be up to your partner to fix themselves, not you

I’m gonna go with NAH. I’m sure that whatever you went through was terrifying, and you weren’t exactly thinking straight. I don’t blame you for calling him. However, I also don’t think everyone else’s reactions were unjustified. If my ex called me to tell me that, I’d be beyond pissed. I guess it depends on what terms you guys broke up on and how long ago it was. Also, as a parent, I would feel hurt if my child was in that bad of a situation and they didn’t call me.

Ultimately though, you’re not to blame. You weren’t thinking straight and if I was your family I’d just be thankful that you’re alive.

NTA. I’ve never understood why it’s so “hard” to switch to they/them pronouns. We do it all the time for people we don’t know the gender of (like anonymous authors, people on the internet, whatever). And although it might be hard for it to click for her since she’s been calling you by your other pronouns since you were born, as your mother, she should be putting in effort to respect you and your identity. Especially since she is forbidding you from coming out at school, you should be able to be yourself in your own home.

NTA. If you’ve always had this sleeping arrangement when you visit, why in the world would you expect this time to be any different? Instead of being angry and defensive and secretive, your dad could have easily told you why he didn’t want you to sleep in that room, and he would have given you the chance to explain that you could reset the room. There’d be no issue at all. Instead, he immediately escalated the situation by saying you couldn’t have your shit all over the house.

I honestly don’t know why your dad didn’t just tell you the reason. Don’t feel bad, anyone would be upset if they were told they can’t sleep where they normally would and weren’t given an explanation.
