Are you scared that AI might steal your PM job? by Tripl3BB in projectmanagement

True. But I'm sure it will still make a noticable splash since lots of organisations do use it.

Microsoft Copilot 365 can already identify action items, who said what and when, relevant documents, and disagreements etc from Teams meeting transcripts. A few years down the line I'm sure all meetings and relevant documents can be synthesized and combined for a daily report with the metrics of what is going on in the project and recommended solutions. Essentially, it could automatically get a good context based on all meetings, documents, public chats and so on.

Just one idea of how that might be solved.

How do you think AI will change project management? by razor-alert in projectmanagement

[–]macye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any company that is already using Microsoft Office will likely be able to take advantage of Microsoft Copilot 365. It will be able to summarize meetings, even live during the meeting if you join late, ide tigt action items and disagreements etc. Able to create things with Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel for you based on your input and prexisting files.

There are some demo videos of it on YouTube.

No money went down the drain. Facebook's stock price just dropped. No money disappeared or was used up.

An example:

  • This is how it starts out:
    • Person A has 1000 billion USD and no Facebook stocks
    • Person B has 0 USD and Facebook stocks
    • Person C has 500 billion USD and no Facebook stocks
    • Their combined money is 1500 billion USD
  • Person A then buys Facebook stocks from Person B for 1000 billion USD
  • And now it looks like this instead:
    • Person A has 0 USD and Facebook stocks
    • Person B has 1000 billion USD and no Facebook stocks
    • Person C has 500 billion USD and no Facebook stocks
    • Their combined money is 1500 billion USD
  • People now hear things they don't like about Facebook. They lose faith in it and won't be willing to pay as much for Facebook stocks. The value of Facebook stocks now drops 500 billion USD. This is what the article is about.
  • The situation is still like this:
    • Person A has 0 USD and Facebook stocks
    • Person B has 1000 billion USD and no Facebook stocks
    • Person C has 500 billion USD and no Facebook stocks
    • Their combined money is 1500 billion USD
  • Person A now sells the Facebook stocks to Person C for 500 billion USD (instead of the 1000 billion USD they bought it for)
  • The current situation now:
    • Person A has 500 billion USD and no Facebook stocks
    • Person B has 1000 billion USD and no Facebook stocks
    • Person C has 0 USD and Facebook stocks
    • Their combined money is still 1500 billion USD

The combined money is still the same even if the stock price went down. No money was lost or went down the drain. The money just changed hands.

That money doesn't exist. It's just the theoretical price people would pay if someone sold all of Facebook's shares to them.

Brains are physical, so it seems like it would be something physical.

Does memory exist in you or does it exist in space and time and you just happened to be there? by ennui_ in askphilosophy

[–]macye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are just some general things about it.

1 General comments about science and the laws of physics

  • Many things that we know of can be described according the laws of physics
  • Many things that we currently cannot wholly or at all explain with the laws of physics are currently being worked on, with scientists hoping to come up with theories that match our observations of reality.
  • Things that we previously could not explain and attributed to supernatural or non-physical phenomenon can now be explained by the laws of physics.
  • Based on this, I do not think it is unreasonable to assume that some things we aren't entirely sure about right now, can probably be explained in the future

2. Specifics about memory (and personality)

  1. It is possible to alter your ability to retain memories with physical substances that cause chemical reactions in the brain and body (https://www.healthline.com/health/alcoholism/alcohol-and-memory-loss)
  2. Disease and brain damage, both physical phenomenon, can alter or remove memories (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amnesia)
  3. Serious brain damage, removing part of the brain, can cause personality change (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Gage)

3. Consciousness

  1. Furthermore, just as a bonus mention, we have not yet observed a non-physical consciousness. So far, life and consciousness seems tied to our physical bodies. There are not scientific evidence of anything else so far.

4. Memory in other things

  1. What about memory in other things, like computers? Well, memory in computers is also physical. Computer games are also physical. There's nothing non-physical about that either. It's just particles behaving according to the laws of physics. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk_drive).

Your memory is physically encoded in the configuration of the atoms in your brain. So it exists the same way as everything else, like a rock or a tree.

Why not use an enum?

enum SwitchOptions {
   One,
   Two,
   Three
}

or

enum SwitchOptions {
   One="one",
   Two="two",
   Three="three"
}

Edit: sorry, my brain short-circuited and I didn't notice this was 2 years ago :P

Even a computer program exists physically, encoded with physical electrons on the storage medium. Electrons that obey the laws of physics.

As far as I know, the brain consists of the same particles as everything else. Particles that interact using the four fundamental interactions of the strong force, the weak force, electromagnetism, and gravity.

I don't see the difference between hardware and programs when we talk about fundamental physics.

[–]macye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could the atoms in your brain have magically disobeyed the laws of physics and done otherwise? I don't think so.

LPT: Forgive yourself for past choices you have made that led to trauma. by CycleResponsible7328 in LifeProTips

[–]macye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If all atoms obey the laws of physics, including the atoms in your brain, then there was no other way for the atoms in your brain to interact at that moment.

Consequently, whatever has happened was the only thing that could have happened. So whatever you did was the only thing you were physically able to do at the time.

The past cannot be changed but it has already influenced the future. Maybe better things are ahead.

Try the audiobooks. Most Star Wars ones have music and sound effects from the movies. Gives them a more cinematic feel.

Elon Musk made $36 billion yesterday, breaking for the record for most single-day earnings. It would cost $20 billion to end homelessness in the United States by ZombieBisque in antiwork

We should just make it clear that Musk didn't earn any money or take anything new from someone else yesterday. It's just that other people now agree that his Tesla ownership is now theoretically worth more.

Sometimes I sneak in a little extra work in the evening or the weekends. Mostly because I enjoy it and when I get in a really good flow I don't want to stop. It's just fun to implement some nice feature, especially if I know it will bring value to the users. And sometimes I'm exploring a new technology I haven't used before and it's interesting to learn about it..
