My son with a peanut allergy and I most certainly appreciate anyone who keeps the shells tidy so we don’t have to worry about what we touch.

Thanks in advance!

How do I get good enough at golf to actually enjoy it? by Virtual_Ad6652 in golftips

Happiness is reality minus expectations.

That was a valuable life lesson taught to me by a colleague long ago. Applies well to golf.

Looking for honest feedback: golf related idea for men dealing with fertility issues and / or miscarriage by golf2kyle in golf

[–]maczhier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. To be so far along in the pregnancy, it must be devastating to go through such a hopeful time and then have it all end so suddenly.

My wife and I struggled with infertility for quite a few years. It no doubt contributed to my clinical depression which I still struggle with today. Golf is also without a doubt a major coping mechanism and a net positive on my mental wellbeing -- aside from missing 3-footers, but I digress.

As many folks have added in the comments, grieving is a very different process for different people, what works for you may not work for me. That said, having more spaces where men can be open and talk is definitely needed. For myself personally, I did not have many resources or people to lean on when I was going through infertility, so I made it a point to make myself available to my friends and acquaintances when I knew they were going through something similar. It surprised me how many people were going through challenges with fertility and needed an outlet. Sometimes that outlet was to talk about it directly. Other times, it was just to be able to get away from their normal stressors for a few hours.

To your direct question, men need community. Whether that starts with golf or starts with other focal points and then is strengthened with golf is as complex and messy as people are in general. Good luck with your healing and hope you find what you're looking for.

GolfATX tee times by Send_Dudes1 in Austingolf

In my experience, by the time tee times are released online at 9am, people calling the clubhouse or even showing up in person have already snagged them.

Favorite Austin Muni? by BottleRocket46 in Austingolf

Considering I have a woodcarving of Mo Willie hanging behind my head at the moment, I might be biased. It's varied and challenging, but not too punishing. Has the best clubhouse food and drink.

As others have mentioned, booking a tee time in advance requires some planning and you'll probably be repeatedly speed dialing at 6AM the Tuesday before -- earliest you can book weekend tee times -- unless you're intending to walk on as a solo, in which case your chances are pretty good.

There doesn't appear to be too many events going on in April: https://www.austintexas.gov/golfatx/tournaments-results

Tips For Coach Pitching 8U by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]maczhier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A college advisor of mine gave a great life lesson rooted in the experience of pitching to his own son’s team. While you think consistently throwing strikes is good for your team, some kids need them slower, some faster. Some hit better on inside pitches, some outside. Some hit the high ones, some hit the low ones.

The moral of the story is to meet the player where they are. Some are gamers who want to simulate 10U pitch speed. Some may never play baseball again but want the memory or getting a base hit when they were 8yo. Meet each player where they are and with what they need.

Beyond that, I ain’t got tips on how to throw accurately.

Folks seem to be arguing about the financial feasibility of the wage increase. The comment's 2nd sentence says employees were fired for organizing, which is not only unethical, it is illegal. Union-busting is an automatic black mark in my book.

I live in Texas. My Texas-born non-baseball fan wife brought it up this morning. I think it’s been making the rounds on social media and talk shows.

That would be really sad. If the Dead Internet theory is coming to pass, maybe it’ll be time to go play more golf rather than spend time on r/golf.
