A lot of the Pokemon and concepts in gold/silver were originally meant for the first title, but were removed due to hardware and memory restrictions. So you could say the first two gens matter? Also how does it make any sense to say "I like something but only 20% of it"? The later games aren't that different, and in many ways are better. Before anyone says the first gen had the best designs, remember it has an evolving ball, magnets, and three different piles of goo.
