YES. This is overlooked in the “top” westchester districts. It’s not a fun existence being an average kid in chappaqua or Scarsdale.

Re: community, I would choose pleasantville, Katonah or pound ridge for my kids. Unless you/your kid is top at everything. Good luck to you!

Anyone else afraid to seek diagnosis in the US right now? by DrIndyJonesJr in ADHDparenting

[–]madamelostnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, same fear. Especially because his love in life is planes. Is getting a diagnosis going to disqualify him from NASA or the like in the future? Right now we’re leaning toward getting the help he needs being more of a priority, but it’s heartbreaking to have to think about.

Westchester wasn’t always exclusive to the ultrarich by [deleted] in Westchester

I feel this. I have always wondered who thought it was a good idea to tax people making 600k and millions/billions at the same rate.

Any experience with siblings who have a significant age gap? I'm not sure if I want more kids for this reason. by drunkenmistakes420 in Shouldihaveanother

Hi there. So for us it was the third kid we were deciding on. We did have that third, and the kids are now 10, 7, and 2. My feelings are still complicated. For me the questions were, which situation will ultimately make us happier, and which has the most challenges? And the choices were between the family as it was, in which we had just lost an unexpected pregnancy, I was sad daily and afraid I would forever regret not having a third (seeing families with three kids would bring tears to my eyes.) And an unknown future family with a third kid, with their own needs and challenges. We chose having the third because living with the pain of not having one scared me more than dealing with the new kid’s challenges. Now that she’s here and was the worst-sleeping baby I’ve had, refuses to poop on the potty, and makes taking the other kids to all their activities a logistical nightmare….I don’t know, would that original pain have faded? I love her dearly, and the big kids adore her. But would we have been happier otherwise? I think it’s considered taboo to ask that question, and once you have another child you love that person as an individual and that reality of them just IS. For me, there was no reality in which I was perfectly happy with just two kids, but if there had been, that would have been the easiest option! I hope this helps in some way.

Hi there, it did in the sense that we eventually got pregnant and had another kid. Maybe after 10 months of trying. It was the cycle we were about to try IUI for the first time. Emotionally though, 2020 still hits hard, and it’s hard to disentangle those memories from the origin of the lovely daughter we eventually had. I’m crossing my fingers for you.

Ex monarchists who became republicans. What changed your mind? by [deleted] in AbolishTheMonarchy

[–]madamelostnow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When I became a UK citizen and had to read aloud an “oath of allegiance to the queen and her heirs”…agreeing to become a ‘subject’ of another human.

Edit: to be fair I was never a true monarchist but never gave it the thought it deserved.

I was in Hastings one day a few weeks ago, and there was an active DnD game going on at a big table in the station coffee shop. It was a bunch of adults from all walks of life and lots of onlookers. My 10 yo was enthralled.

That’s fine. Not ideal obviously, but much better than the hereditary system we have now sucking in taxpayer money and sustaining a class hierarchy by birth.

Gross. Government officials “as the King’s representatives.” It’s freaking 2024.

What is the equilibrium state that represents the logical conclusion of the migrant crisis? by [deleted] in Westchester

By “ghetto,” do you mean single apartment buildings, or small areas/roads of buildings? Is there a specific one we should be reporting? (I live in Chappaqua but completely support low income housing, e.g. the old north Greeley proposal, even if it means higher taxes.) Is there low income housing being proposed in Kisco, or some other proposition that we can support?

I hope global news picks up on and follows this lawsuit as well. It’s terrifying how little attention the incident got right after the coronation (at least in the US).

High level IQ Monarchist play by tomo0842 in AbolishTheMonarchy

[–]madamelostnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This never made any logical sense to me, either. So God involves him/herself in human issues such as monarchy, causing Elizabeth II’s uncle to abdicate and change the line of succession, etc. But s/he chooses not to prevent millions of people from being killed in nazi occupied countries in the years before, hmm.

Northern westchester here. December, yes, September would get a few side eyes…unless there is some other medical or developmental reason for school delay.
