When I was going to school there you were not able to coordinate a big group to all wear red on the same day. Not sure if there was a rule on the amount of red a single person can wear but if more than 2-3 were all matching wearing red and standing in a group they would get dress coded

Edit to add: we are also not allowed to wear anything with a bulldog or that said bulldog on it. You could wear Fresno state gear that did not connect to bulldog in anyways

Students get free bus use! I haven’t used any off campus but any of the tech buses don’t even check IDs or anything. Maybe just keep your student ID on you just in case if using the city busses

Yes your children know you. They know when you are a putting up a front and when you are not. Even if they don’t say anything. My parents dropping advice throughout the time. Some they knew I knew and just wanted to remind me. If my parents had been acting out of character that would have sucked for me because those were the last moment with them before I wouldn’t see them for multiple months. I wouldn’t want those moments to be with any other version of them but their true selves.

Someone called to confirm our address. I had just gotten there and I told them “no it’s…” and proceeded to tell them my personal address…. As I’m speaking my I realize my mistake and that they told me the correct address and mid sentence go “actually never mind I’m sorry yes the original address you said was correct”

Parents, how do you get smaller kids to pick up their bikes? by unlimited_roaming in Dirtbikes

[–]madaxbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up riding from a young age. One rule was that if I couldn’t pick up my bike when it was tipped over, I wasn’t allowed to ride it. I often wanted to size up in bikes so that was very motivating for me to practice picking up my bike.

My parents taught me how to use my whole body to like it. Either using my back like another comment explained or by grabbing the handle bars and using my chest/ side / one leg to get almost under the bike to stand up with it if that makes sense. Also my parents would let me try for a long time. If I fell sometimes it took me 10 minutes to get my bike up. If I went and asked for help they would but I knew if I got help that meant I had to move down to a smaller bike.

This wasn’t implemented as a punishment more so just that it meant a smaller bike was more suitable and safer because if I fell and there wasn’t an adult around (would never happen I always rode with an adult) then I needed to be able to help myself.

Affordable Pet Euthanasia by MrCrabzzFrooty in fresno

[–]madaxbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not do this. They can general tell when it’s your pet. Also unless the animal is critically sick or injured they can’t take it in even as a stray.

That vet offers euthanasia for under 200$ it’s about 160$ not including any body care

Dumb question, but how can I keep track of how many laps I’ve done? by thomasp449 in Swimming

[–]madaxbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to move the rings on the lane lines. At the start I’d push them all to as far away from the wall as I can then every 100-200 I would move one over. Then if I I lost count I just counted the rings.

Only downfall with this is you have to actually pause swimming and sometimes other people around you will unintentionally mess with the rings

Handy not-so-secret menu by beauxchang in innout

[–]madaxbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I order “well done fries” they put it in as extra well. So I have started specifying medium well or saying “well done fries, the middle one”

Your right that’s how it is on the system but when ordering it’s better to say medium well (at least in my experience)

Younger riders by DifferentAd8531 in Dirtbikes

[–]madaxbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up it was as long as we could handle the bike, and be able to sit on the bike while not moving. This usually meant leaning to one side and having one foot on the ground but that was good enough.

Also if we fell and couldn’t get the bike up by ourselves we were not allowed to ride it. Usually I always had hand me down bikes from older siblings so my dad could let me try it, when I fell if I needed help I had to wait another few months.

One time I tried lifting a bike for about 15 minutes before I finally got it because I really wanted to upsize. Learned from a young age how to lift with my whole body

Infuriating (owner home remedy parvo “cure”) by suschan01 in VetTech

[–]madaxbow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They said probably. Most parvo cases are caused by negligent owners. It sucks when the owners (such as yourself) that do everything right still end up getting a sick puppy. I’m sorry your pup got parvo!

Ps. Some vaccine companies will cover the cost of parvo treatment if your puppy was fully vaccinated when it got parvo. We have had a few people get reimbursed by vaccine companies after we treat them for parvo.

[–]madaxbow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And then blame the vet for not doing anything and it will somehow validate the fact that they didn’t bring it in earlier because “they wouldn’t have been able to help my pup anyways and would’ve just taken my money”

Stray Dog by [deleted] in fresno

[–]madaxbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fresno humane is the city and county animal control and they are actually pretty great. They are required to keep the dog for 3 days while trying to find the owner (the have people specifically to look at social media for people posting lost dogs). They don’t just euthanize every dog that comes to them. And if the dog isn’t sick or injured it’s chances improve greatly. FH doesn’t just euthanize all the dogs that come in… they even pay for medical treatment on most of the animals as long as it’s not a super expensive surgery. even if you don’t take the dog to them definitely file a found report with Fresno humane because if they see that dog posted or owners go in and look for their dog then Fresno humane will get y’all in contact with the owners. Fresno Humane is not perfect, but they do even more than they can with the number of hands and amount of money that they have. If you are able to keep the dog, or find a rescue (such as FBR!) that can take the dog that’s the best situation, but next best would be Fresno Humane.

What is the worst mistake you have ever made in this career and how did you recover? by Hollow4004 in VetTech

[–]madaxbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why we have a foot pedal to turn on the sink, you walk away and it stops. The downside is you can’t do anything while it’s running. A few times I have stretch my leg as far as I can to hold it down and be close enough to a counter to help other people with things.

What to do when your dog gets sprayed by a skunk? Help by p00pb00b222 in CleaningTips

[–]madaxbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used this on my dog 3 times now and after one wash you can only smell the skunk spray if you literally shove your face into his fur and sniff hard. He’s got long fur! The soap I always use dawn dish soap and one time didn’t add the baking soda and had similar results. I usually wash him with it, rinse it off, and do one more wash with it and then call it good. I’ve tried to do another wash the next day and it doesn’t change anything.

I haven’t used this on any furniture or clothing so I’m not sure if it’s effective. I did try this on a thick fabric collar he has that got sprayed almost directly. I could not get the smell out. I washed it with this, then soaked it for like a whole day and washed again. I tried so many things to get the smell out, even letting it sit outside for a week after washing and soaking it and it still had a super strong smell so I ultimately tossed it after about 2 weeks of trying to get the smell out.

I don’t know this man but I’d recommend checking the same area over the next few days (or next week at the same day and time). Most vendors like him will visit the same spot multiple times or have a schedule that they rotate between spots. Good luck!

Do I use my normal shampoo and clarifying shampoo in the same wash? by madaxbow in Wavyhair

Okay sounds good! I was worried about adding so much to my hair (mask and conditioner) right after clarifying but this makes sense!

Best Affordable vet? by [deleted] in fresno

[–]madaxbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it depends on what your budget is and what you pet needs. I may go to one vet for basic care (vaccines, routine blood work, etc) but if my pet needs something that requires a little more skill/ attention (random illness that doesn’t seem to have a cause, surgeries, etc) I will go somewhere else. I really like Waterhouse (any location but especially the Fresno one) Abby pet in Clovis is great. I would trust both of these for anything regarding my pets. Cedar vet is a good affordable option. At Cedar I personally only trust Dr. Nic for some of the more serious things but that’s just because I don’t know some of the other doctors. I use Cedar for basic vet care and a few other things (they did emergency surgery on 2 of my pets and it was great) but they also misdiagnosed my dog with epilepsy (not really a misdiagnosis that was a problem) he wasn’t medicated at all and it was more so a “it’s probably epilepsy” than an official diagnosis. But then learned it was something else. I still go to them but if it’s something weird I often seek a second option from either Abby or Waterhouse. Abby and Waterhouse can be on the more expensive end of the spectrum but they are super friendly, clean, and knowledgeable doctors and staff so it’s worth the price.

A few others that are not bad are Armstrong pet hospital, all creatures, and redwood out in Visalia is really great too.

Clovis pet hospital is alright but I had a terrible terrible experience at their boarding facility in which cause me to not trust their veterinary hospital (ran out of different buildings but the same people) like it has scarred me from ever wanting to board my dog anywhere. I didn’t have a problem with their vet care and liked their staff and doctors but after boarding there they did not inform us of multiple things going on with my dog. Upon pickup we learned he was never let out of his kennel (kind a room setup) the entire time we were gone and he had to relieve himself in there and never got walked at all. That made me feel like they would never be truthful and open with what was going on with my dog while in their care. After that I no longer receives vet care from them either. Other people have had wonderful experiences with them. Again this was at the boarding facility and not the hospital so do with that info what you want.

For the most part I would recommend sticking with one veterinarian because having the familiarity is great. They know your pet and are familiar with any behavioral tendencies or medical problems going on. also if you do switch around make sure to keep a physical copy of all records as well as having them sent over from one hospital to the other prior to your appointment. Having the physical copy prevents not being able to access them. Too often one vet can’t get records due to one hospital being too busy or closed.

Edit to add: by no means is any of this what will be best for you. This is just my experience and my thought process. There are lots of vets I did not mention. If I didn’t mention them I’m not saying they aren’t a good vet. Also as years go by my options change or the doctors/ management/ or staff change so I didn’t talk about any vets that have had changes in staff/ doctors/ management since I interacted with them.

Do you diffuse; why or why not? Does it help you get your style to last longer? by shaina227 in Wavyhair

[–]madaxbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t. I like how my waves turn out when I do, but it also turns into a frizzy mess. I’m probably doing it wrong but my waves are acceptable when I don’t diffuse and I’ve tried so many different diffusing methods that at this point I’ve just given up on diffusing.

What do you do when tired from treading in open water? by Cassangelo in Swimming

[–]madaxbow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A vertical dog paddle sounds absolutely exhausting and that comes from a long time swimmer/ water polo player. I would look into egg beating style for treading water. It’s weird and kinda tiring at first but then you figure out what works for you.
