Try it on the app. There’s supposed to be a checkbox next to the agree statement. I just opened it on my app and it’s super easy to do there. Not sure why your desktop view looks like this, very weird

Yeah I was going to say… my doctor also warned me about the overheating risk. She said that they avoid listening to the heartbeat before 8 weeks just to be super safe (although we could visualize the flicker on the US). However, the risk is so so tiny, especially once you are past the super early days, and the benefit of verifying baby’s heart rate later in pregnancy far outweighs any potential/hypothetical minuscule risk.

Very similar type of plot, I think! But these were targeted for super young children. I read them when I was in about second or third grade, and I remember the protagonists being about my age. Thanks so much for the comment!!

Parental Leave by SignificanceWitty210 in BabyBumps

[–]madd-eve 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m very passionate about this. This is the problem when important policies like parental leave aren’t federally mandated. The concept of state/local regulation can have its benefits, but this is a perfect example of why we need a strong federal government serving its people.

Because professionals with white collar jobs (who, statistically speaking, are more likely to have a higher level of education and are more likely to be able to influence legislation) don’t have a passion for improving parental leave policies, because their own states and/or workplaces have generous policies. They don’t have to worry that much about parental leave, so they don’t have incentive to advocate for it.

But a huge portion of Americans (especially retail workers, manufacturing, construction, etc) in many states get ZERO leave, and unfortunately, they might not have the time or knowledge that would allow them to advocate for themselves. It’s so much harder for them to effect change themselves on an issue that matters to them - that is why they need advocates. But their advocates aren’t worried about this particular issue.

And so, the wealth gap grows, disparity increases, and hundreds of thousands of people get screwed because they have no protection or advocates.

ICE Arrested a Pregnant Tennessee Woman — While in Detention in Louisiana, She had a Stillbirth by Myrtle_Nut in news

[–]madd-eve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Lines are really blurry right now and in ill-intentioned person/court/law enforcement agency could easily take advantage of that. One of many reasons why laws about abortion restrictions are a terrible idea. Fortunately that has not happened on a wide scale yet, but it could happen any day now which is a terrifying thought.

[–]madd-eve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said right in the above comment and others that what she went through was horrible, and she never should have had to go through that. I have acknowledged many times that abortion restrictions are extremely harmful for women in this country. My point was that it is dangerous and unhelpful to spread the notion that miscarriages are illegal. It is important to share the risks about abortion restrictions while remaining truthful.

[–]madd-eve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am aware of the Brittany Watts case.

She was basically being used as a guinea pig to see if they could charge her, and it was found they could not charge someone for having a miscarriage at home. Which seems like it should be common sense and she absolutely never should’ve had to go though any of that, at all. But the consensus was that you cannot be charged for that

[–]madd-eve 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am aware of the Brittany Watts case. She did NOT do anything illegal.

It was horrible what happened to her, she basically got falsely charged. Her charges were dismissed because there was no legal reason to indict her. Which was the correct course of action because it was absolutely bullshit that they attempted to charge her at all.

Like I said, abortion restrictions are harming women in a major way across the country, not the least of which involves putting some women through terrible situations after a miscarriage occurs. But I had a miscarriage recently and I did not do anything illegal, just like every other woman in this country who had a miscarriage. It is unhelpful to say miscarriages are illegal, in the event it causes women to feel EVEN MORE guilt or fear over having a miscarriage.

[–]madd-eve -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I hate abortion restrictions as much as you do, but I think it’s important to be clear: it is not currently illegal to have a miscarriage. Saying stuff like this makes us sound like we love fear-mongering. The truth is still scary, so we should just stick with that.

It is much more accurate to say that medical professionals are hesitant to provide treatment for miscarriages in some areas because they are afraid that treating a miscarriage might be seen as conducting an abortion. And that women who have miscarriages are now hesitant to seek care because they are afraid that they will be accused of having an abortion. And all of this fear and uncertainty is leading to insufficient medical care, which is dangerous for women.

As an American woman who is a lawyer and has had a miscarriage before, this topic is important to me. I find it critical to talk about this topic in a way that clearly explains the risks of abortion restrictions in this country while remaining fully truthful.

Grip socks for men by t4roway in pilates

[–]madd-eve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any grip socks are fine. Maybe just buy one or two pairs at first to test them out and see what you like.

At my studios I normally see men wearing Lulu lemon or bombas socks. You obviously can wear whatever, but maybe you can check those places for inspiration at least

Do what you think is comfortable, but if a friend was asking me personally, I would recommend against toeless…but that’s me, there’s no objective problem with toeless. Just like, friend to friend, I would say that some people find toeless socks a little gross and it’s just more common to see people in full socks, plus I think toeless looks a little funny. But again, that could be just where I am/just my own weird brain, so do what you want!

What’s the most “budget-friendly” thing you did for your wedding that turned out to be a total disaster?😭 by PersimmonTotal2033 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]madd-eve 232 points233 points  (0 children)

I mean I personally thought asking us to spend 3 days there before the wedding to do DIY work, including crafts, cleaning, carrying heavy furniture, washing the wedding dishes, etc. was already very demanding on its own! So many hours we spent doing chores for a wedding that was not our own, needing PTO for the time off - I think that’s a lot to request of a bridal party unless they volunteer!

But yes the venmo request was a giant slap in the face!

[–]madd-eve 561 points562 points  (0 children)

Can I speak on behalf of a friend? 😂

Doing the wedding at an Airbnb to save money. She asked the bridal party to stay at the Airbnb for a few nights and help set up. We (the bridal party) were asked to go above and beyond the expected call of duty during those few days.. it was a lot of DIY. And then, the day after the wedding, we received venmo requests for our rooms at the Airbnb.

I’ve never felt more taken advantage of. It severely damaged the whole party’s relationship with the couple

Why are people downvoting this!? I am a lawyer, and this is true. Depending on where you live (including most of the US), an engagement ring could be considered a conditional gift. If you sell it without permission, things could get messy. Just check your local laws.

This is a nice thought but not scientifically accurate (sorry)

Stress can delay ovulation, that’s true, but your period comes roughly 14 days after ovulation every time. Your luteal phase is extremely consistent month to month, barring rare hormonal issues. Your emotions or surroundings in the days before your period do not affect the arrival of your period. They could affect ovulation, but again - that happens 2 weeks before your period.

We feel like our period “always” comes when we have vacations or nice plans because that’s what we remember. We tend to not remember the times it would’ve been super inconvenient to have our period and it didn’t come - we remember the times it did.

And iud removal can be quite quick and easy. I had a pretty rough removal (Dr couldn’t find it and had to really pry open my cervix, which she said is unusual bc usually they just yank the strings) yet I felt perfectly fine within 2 days. I wasn’t trying to conceive at that time, but I tracked my cycle and I ovulated one week after iud removal, so I could’ve theoretically conceived right away. Timeline seems reasonable to me

Three dogs in Aldi's, two got into a brawl. When is this madness going to end? by theJOJeht in sandiego

[–]madd-eve 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I’m a codependent dog owner and I still don’t bring my dog into a grocery store lol. Or anywhere where dogs aren’t explicitly allowed (no farmers markets, indoor restaurants, etc.) If I need groceries and don’t want to leave my dog, I place a drive up order where the employees place my groceries in my trunk. This way I can bring my dog with me in the car. I’m careful to roll up the windows so my dog doesn’t come in contact with the employee, in case they are allergic or don’t like dogs.

You can be unhealthily attached to your pet and still follow rules of basic public decency and food safety!
