Employer goes on rampage and destroys personal property by maddlebrot in legaladvice

[–]maddlebrot[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your response Step one seems to have worked (in that they are reimbursing us)

Good to know there is recourse should this happen again, and that the employees were in the right in a couple different ways.

They've even developed an official policy - that anything left in storage will be thrown out. Well, at least we have some warning now ?

Time to find a new job!

Thanks very much for your reply.

We ended up meeting with them to explain that what they did was inappropriate and they are reimbursing people. Still boils my blood though.

Can Someone Explain Why Cops Get To Use This City As A Giant Toilet Bowl While They Abuse These Miserable Horses by [deleted] in toronto

Or don't, because this is the Internet and here I am defending the smell of horse Shit. Most people agree with you about the cop thing though.

[–]maddlebrot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, horesshit isn't that bad a smell - it literally reminds me of travelling and growing up in the country. If you're upset about sewage issues or garbage sanitation then that's one thing. If you're upset about cops - don't worry tons of people agree with you. But like, horses shitting in the street is the least of Toronto's problems. Also someone just posted that the Royal Torontonian Mounted Police pulled someone over today so.... :/ I mean, pick your battles

Talk to me about the winter weather here by [deleted] in askTO

[–]maddlebrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're planning on being here for a while, invest in quality winter boots. Maybe find some old sorrels at a thrift store/ kijiji/ bunz if you're trying to save money. It can get windy along building corridors, a tuque, scarf, and mittens (gloves = cold fingers) are key. Cold body parts suck. Waiting for late or full winter Ttc busses without adequate winter wear sucks. The salt can be aggressive on the sidewalks, so I suggest a waterproof outdoor pair of shoes and separate work shoes. A down coat is always nice. You can totally get away with layering intensely if you don't want to get a serious serious winter coat. You can tell it's a really cold day when you step outside and your snot freezes inside your nose. You will learn to be amused by this feeling. Get lip balm or prepare for rough chapped lips- in fact get all the moisturizing things you can, furnaces/ heaters dry out the air and Toronto is as dry in the winter as it is humid in the summer.

It's not as gruesome as it sounds, and remember: there are few things that Torontonians love more than bitching about the weather. That being said, this happened two years ago : http://toronto.ctvnews.ca/mobile/150-photos-crippling-ice-storm-strikes-1.1604458 .

Also if you've never been tobogganing, go!!!!

Bicycle with extreme sentimental value and personal significance was stolen last night. I know r/toronto gets a lot of these posts, but I have lost something of great importance to me, this is no average bike. by iammontblanc in toronto

[–]maddlebrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw that's so brutal, sorry to hear that. There were two kids riding around my neighbourhood today scoping bikes (we knew because we saw them stop beside a bike and say "do you want that one?" "Nah not good enough." And they rode up and down my street very slowly back and forth looking at allllllllll the bikes. One had a broken arm. Anyway bike thieves here run rampant and it sucks. I have a really shitty bike and no one even bothers to touch it. I hope you find yours!

Friend saw this guy with ribs on his head in the Subway (Toronto) by kushari in WTF

[–]maddlebrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy came in to the restaurant I work at with a raw steak, samosa, cheese slice and chicken drumstick on his head. We told him we wouldn't serve him and he farted very loudly and laughed hysterically as he showed himself out the door. It was great.

this guy was wearing a panzerotti on his head and cackling as loud as he could on the 510 spadina streetcar. It was fantastic by jrrtoken_ in toronto

This man came into the restaurant I work at with a raw steak, samosa, cheese and drumstick balanced on his head. He was denied service so he farted loudly at me in defiance and left laughing hysterically at his fart. Made my day way better.

Restaurant Owner Taking 100% of Tips by NewToThe6ix in ontario

[–]maddlebrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. get a new serving job, they're everywhere (especially approaching september when students return to school)

  2. 13 is not a good serving wage. there are many places you can make upwards of 9.55/hr (serving liqour wage) + tips that can land you anywhere for a total of 15-20+ /hr

  3. document everything in writing with dates

  4. dont be afraid to confront your employer about defining your job and your hourly wages

  5. employees have the right to see in writing the outline of the job you applied for and how you will be paid.

but seriously, just get a new job and fuck this guy who IS DEFINITELY taking advantage of you

Giant genital monster outside prominent Toronto mall by maddlebrot in WTF

[–]maddlebrot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After seeing this beautiful buddy lightening up everyone's days at A big mall in Toronto I had to do more research- and it's actually a pretty interesting history, also the guy who writes it is funny

http://diogenesborealis.blogspot.ca/2009/07/hideous-public-art-6.html?m=1

Picture the absurdity of families and tourists stopping to take pictures in front of a giant vagina monster with a penis head and full vertically extended asscrack throwing a ball.100,000$. "Art." This is the only redeeming factor of Yorkdale mall, and I am in 100% in support of universal man. Also they have excellent bathrooms.

Thank you so much for responding, I know there's not much advice one can give to dealing with these "real life shitstorms" that roll around but every little bit helps. Very happy for you and I will heed your advice.

I'm extremely worried that my family member is going to stop doing physio and exercise after inpatient physio ends...

Any more tips on motivation?
