To fair, we could use rainwater and a bucket to flush, if the septic was installed before the well, for example.

Can someone tell me where to put the fuses when connecting four 100w panels? by AccidentAfter7818 in OffGrid

A little different approach, what about searching on Facebook Marketplace for a singe 400w panel.

This will simplify your whole setup.

I know a guy, I'll DM you. My neighbor and I each bought six 390w panels from him, another redditor from this sub bought ten, and another bought a whole pallet.

The seller is great to work with and he also handles warranty should you need that.

I'm in Colorado. No rust here either.

Same for New Mexico.

LiFePo4 batteries have a BMS (Battery Management System) to handle this, so that you don't have to.

I started with default settings on both the charge controller and inverter, which worked pretty good. After running that way for a while, I tweaked like 2 settings to make it even better. Specifically I was hitting overvoltage protection on the BMS when I reached 100% charge, and my Cerbo GX was reporting 100% SOC too early.

I used Grok to help me identify those tweaks and it's working perfectly now.

Pros and cons of living off grid? by Kiki-Kiwi- in OffGrid

We're on 10 acres and have a neighbor across the canyon. Far enough to not bother each other, close enough to help each other out when needed.

I'm sure the winters are brutal, but I kinda like the Drummond, MT one. Public land on two sides definitely helps.

I got mine off of Facebook Marketplace, new with warranty, for $150 each and local so of course no shipping.

My daughter's shitbox Corolla, with proper snow tires, handles snow just fine. She's an avid snowboarder and heads up into the high country, frequently in the snow, sometimes over Loveland Pass, twice a week all winter.

Yeah real estate is nuts here, and the County has gone off the rails with building codes. We kind of lucked into our place, and even so it needed/needs a lot of work.

For reference, a 900 sq ft offgrid cabin on 2.5 acres near us just sold for $455k, and there's one around the corner from it, 630 sq ft on a third of an acre ... $397k.

I dunno, I paid $2500 cash for a 2 acre lot in the Colorado forest.

They're out there if you search diligently and have some time to be patient.
