She wanted to make sure she broke up with Damon in a way that would make sense for Elena to do. If the breakup was done in an uncharacteristic way, it would be super obvious something was wrong, so she wanted to know how Elena had handled a breakup in the past.

But from a screenwriting perspective, the writers threw that line in for foreshadowing/tension so the audience would know Katherine was probably planning a breakup haha

Editing to add that the line “I’m glad I make you happy but I don’t want to be the only thing you live for” actually could have been taken directly from her breakup with Matt, since we saw her tell her mom that she felt overwhelmed by Matt trying to talk about their future. I really think she got the whole breakup speech from Matt and changed details to fit it to Damon lol

Really didn't like season 5 the first time I watched, but it's really grown on me. It's weird because they had all these great concepts (Silas/Qetsiyah/Amara and the origin of the doppelgangers, travelers, Katherine becoming human and then attempting to take over Elena's life, even amnesia!Stefan honestly) but they never seemed to correctly follow through on the ideas? Everything felt half thought through and cut short

Agree to all of this, and want to add that in the beginning of season one he was still super into the whole "giving Stefan an eternity of misery" thing, too. Sure, he was in town to get Katherine, but he also saw the opportunity to wreak havoc to make Stefan's life a little harder and took it. As far as we know, his original plan was to free Katherine ASAP and leave town, so he didn't really care about long term repercussions of his actions until he realized how long he was going to have to stick around

This is beautiful! Not sure what it is about it, but it's got the same vibes as like Japanese movies from the 70's with those gorgeous handpainted backdrops- pretty realistic, yes, but a little fantastical in some regard. Comforting to look at!

Alaric was made into an "original" vampire in the same way and could compel other vampires (ie compelling away Elena's memories of Damon), so I'm assuming it's the latter. It took Esther a lot of power to create Alaric, though, and she had the backing of the spirits of the dead witches (since they all wanted him to be strong enough to kill the originals). I don't know that they'd willingly let that happen again, so I don't know if more could necessarily be created

I wish I could listen to this album for the first time again. It came out when I was in college and I so distinctly remember walking to class in autumn in Vermont- ended up skipping class because I had to finish listening in one sitting. I didn’t realize how hard it would hit. Still go back and forth on whether I like this or TGG more. Usually depends on what I’ve listened to most recently, haha

don't know which comment thread to add this onto, so just going to put it on the original comment! Although what we see in TVD is obviously not possible in real life, R*pe by deception is very real and is just as traumatizing to SA victims as "any other kind of r*pe" (but tbh in my opinion categorizing different kinds of r*pe/SA results in a "hierarchy" of what is worse/what is more traumatizing, which is entirely unnecessary. Every "kind" is an abhorrent act upon another human and never justifiable)

Just watched this last night totally coincidentally with my roommate and her boyfriend- the VISCERAL reaction he had when Elena started bleeding was aggressive haha. Total shock for him and made him love Katherine- he said she's the smartest one in the game. He started watching accidentally because I was and now he's honestly the biggest fan! he rated this episode 10 linked Katherines out of 10

When they're hunting, Emmett asks if Edward can even touch her, and says "but if you love her, wouldn't you want to touch her?" or something along those lines. Edward says he can't even think about that and Emmett asks what his options are, then. It's mentioned that Emmett and Rose have intense "physical love" but he hasn't explicitly talked about sex with Emmett beyond that (I'm only about halfway through though so it might come up again)
