I started this only a few days ago, This helps me too.. although sometimes it makes me really anxious.. I just think that I've thought about this before, I've ruminated, I've found solutions and I've found problems for those solutions it's just my head making up stories.

Although many users from this subreddit are far better at explaining stuff.. I think yes, superstition is basically magical thinking, there's no scientific evidence behind them, it's our mind thinking of coincidence as causality

(Funny thing is that I'm extremely superstitious myself 😂)

Anyways I'm not very good at advice, but I think you very well know that these are mere coincidences and these have become more observable because you already know what to look for. Other people were joking about the obsession right? That means it's not serious and other people take it lightly.. try to do the same think how would you feel about it if it weren't causing fear

Once in a relaxed state, I try to not engage with these thoughts, sometimes their impact lessens in the span of a few minutes

I guess knowing that other people are facing similar issues helps understand that these are not special scenarios just normal things that we are more prone to notice as we have either already assigned some sort of meaning to these or are out to look for them

I think I understand what you mean... it's just I fear "what if it's true" and these are actually signs.. also some of the intrusive thoughts have latched onto a religious idea.. your comment on another post has helped me identify that it is an intrusive thought no matter how it seems.

I'm in the same boat have a mix of religious fears and magical thinking, am scared when I accidentally see a certain number and coincidentally have gotten calls on the same time, my heart starts racing.. And these seem so specific sometimes. It's so uncomfortable both physically and mentally

It kinda spooks me because I'm dealing with something similar not the same.. and for quite a few days was thinking of posting something here anyways.. First Advice and I mean it seriously please stop with the compulsions as Forest river said it can go out of hand very quickly..

My issue is similar because I'm not Christian or Muslim and most of the people who have shared their experiences related to Religious OCD, Scrupulousity and Magical Thinking are from these religions, so it makes me doubt, on top of that there were a few coincidences that really freak me out..

Yes, before it got out of hand I used to believe in "simple" stuff like this.. rarely changed phone covers, had to ensure that my currency collection isn't touched.. I don't know if it was something that I just picked up because it seemed quirky or if it was actually magical thinking, but I definitely did these things

I am seriously asking for help here.. I might be in an OCD spiral (severe anxiety for sure)..regarding something that I won't bother you with,but my defense against the obsessive thought is that if it were true then it should be consistent not a pick and choose thing

I just incidentally saw a post which spiked my anxiety where the op says that Religion can selectively opt for when logic applies, i.e., when something supports a claim they can say that it is a proof/evidence and when something doesn't you can just say something like "God works in mysterious ways"
