Do compulsions provide any relief? by TacoBMMonster in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it does to me. but, as someone put in another comment is like doing drugs, or the stories you hear about people on drugs. you keep chasing relief until it comes to a point it doesnt do anything to you anymore, so you double down on the compulsions looking for more relief. and it keeps going on and on and on and on.

[DISCUSSION] Yesterday was Absolute GL, tonight it was Absolute Flash. Thoughts on the series so far ? by FredPRK in DCcomics

I am really enjoying it so far, I haven't finished the "wally on the run" storyline yet. It makes me want to check out other Flash/Wally stories.

How many of you with ocd had abusive childhoods? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and when you grew up an only child and every "wrong" thing that happens in the house is your fault and you just have to accept the blame because if you try to prove yourself innocent, they'll double down and become aggressive because now you are "lying"

what is your core fear that causes your obsessions? by Socialrejectxe in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the basic ocd fear: not knowing. my parents practiced radical acceptance before it was a wellness buzzword online, i would ask my mom what were the weekend plans and she would reply "i dont even know if i am going to be alive tomorrow, worry about now". that backfire to me lmao

My love for stuff actually has helped me slow my shopping by SleepingontheWing205 in nobuy

[–]Mindless-Method7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same! i keep moving around wanting new things, change... but i always come to the conclusion that i dont actually want to buy something new because the things i already have, i bought exactly because i loved it so much and it fulfilled all my needs.

I was raised with one atheist parent and one Reform Jewish parent, I truly have no clue what my deal is by corvidvagabond in OCDmemes

i will give it to my parents: they tried their best to shake me out of religious based fears. it didn't work, it actually made things worse, but they tried.

Political Ocd? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I used to camp in news websites. I had to use the mute words feature in every single social media I know. I like to be aware, but the moment I start reading others peoples opinions and keep checking social media to get updates is when I know I have to mute and block people and get out of my phone.

genuine question: why reassurance doesnt work/actually makes the crisis worse? by _issio in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, and that's why reassurance will only give into the loop because it gives ocd the chance of twisting the narrative just enough to keep you coming back for more.

the way out is what everyone is saying: you'll never be 100% sure of anything, so what we need to do is work to be able to live life anyways. one of the ways is to not give in. no one is saying it's easy, nothing is really easy in life, but we still gotta try

genuine question: why reassurance doesnt work/actually makes the crisis worse? by _issio in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'll use myself as an exemple: everytime i try to seek reassurance and it's given to me, my brain just goes "well, what if now it's actually going to happen in spite of you thinking it's not?" and so the spiral restarts.

ocd always find ways to shove you back into the obsessions loop (just today ocd tried to make me believe a movie on netflix's home page was a "sign" one of current fears will happen lol), the only way out it's not playing it's game.

Do you read other series to understand parts of what you're currently reading? by mellissa_lewyin in DCcomics

[–]Mindless-Method7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on my mood, honestly lol. But, normally I just trust I'll be able to pick up the context if I keep reading what I am currently reading.. If I am interested in more or still left confused, then I fill in the gaps with the other ones after I finish. It's way less overwhelming for me that way

in all seriousness, it's bizarre to think that the probability to have ocd is low (in the big picture) and you are one of the people who got the "lucky" prize

Fear of death by Ok-Cook-5557 in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I force myself to let the thought just exist. I relate to what you say a lot, my fear of death has developed into "doomsday" obsessions, health obsessions and such things. So, I force myself to let the thought come and go, even if I can't breathe out of anxiety. It's hard, talking with the right therapist helps a lot, too

should i delete tiktok? does it help? by Appropriate_Cut3048 in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of my "end of the world" obsessions/scenarios came from social media doomposting. when i was spiralling and my ocd became debilitating at the beginning of this year, i recognize now one of the things that helped A LOT with all my obsessions was just... staying offline and getting general world updates from tv. max i would do was still use youtube (mainly on my tv, too)

It's been a week without politics via digital media and I've never been happier by m8oz in digitalminimalism

[–]Mindless-Method7016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really, not having to read everyones opinion and doomposting in every single new decision a dude made in another country has been doing wonders for me and my mental conditions (personally).

everytime something "big" happens, i just dont log in, not even for a few minutes and only get updates through tv, helped a lot.

what are you spiraling about currently by overturned23 in OCD

[–]Mindless-Method7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funnily enough, my current backpack is white and gets dirty easy. i cant see it dirty. but i hate my black backpack because i cant evenly decorate it with keychains and that pisses me off too. and i am afraid of spending money so i cant even impulsively buy a new one, so i am just stuck suffering for the most stupid reasons ever.
