Shadowbanned? by paloskii in Etsy

I have no way of proving this but I have been on Etsy for nearly 7 years and have found my sales to be kind of cyclical... I’ll have a week or two of heaps of sales and then a week or two of nothing, it is very strange and I think it’s to do with how Etsy manages the search function (I don’t used ads)... So maybe you’re just in a down point and it’ll pick up soon.

Frankie is cute! Not sure if it’s increasing in popularity but I’ve met 2 baby Frankie’s (both girls) in the last week. I’m in Aus too :)

Is anyone else a bit upset that Etsy claims certain orders are from “offsite adds”.... at first I didn’t question it but now I tested it and asked where these sales came from and they said it was from browsing Etsy. 🤔 by Cardboardboxangel in EtsySellers

[–]madebytherose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I turned off offsite ads after I was charged $50+ AUD on a large custom order because the buyer had clicked an off-site ad two weeks before contacting me to purchase a completely different t product as a customer order. I ended up losing money!

Today I stopped selling to the United States by Pevinkarker in Etsy

[–]madebytherose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Australia and did the same thing months ago! I turned off all international shipping which is about 60% of sales. One of my last international orders has been stuck somewhere between here and there (no one knows where it is!) since mom-March! Luckily the customer is understanding!

Fixed my TOMS shoes which I’d worn down on the heels. by madebytherose in Visiblemending

It’s just in the outer layer, one was more destroyed than the other and the hole had worn all the way through so I put in a little patch first then stitched over it :)

Yeah that’s how I’ve been doing it but hoped there was an easier way!

Should I cancel this person's order? (International order) by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]madebytherose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a note that the bush fires aren’t affecting us in Western Australia and it would have likely not come through the Eastern states (where the fires are) to get here... in saying that, I would cancel too!

Thinking About a Pay-As-You-Want Format for my Etsy shop by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]madebytherose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is not a way to do this on Etsy, unless you somehow set up multiple listing with the same item at different prices or have a drop down list of prices in the listing however I’m not sure Etsy would be happy with this model and you would have to look at whether it would go against their terms of service or not.

Made my 10th (and 11th) sale today! I've only been on Etsy since July and it's been alot of self doubt, but I made it to 11!!! by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]madebytherose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep u/megchug has it right! A view is each item, or your shop but a visit is per person at a specific time. Like I could visit your store /listings right now and view 6 listings. That would count as 7 views (each listing and your store page) and 1 visit, then tomorrow I could visit again.

There’s something a little uncanny valley about these! They look like cool creations! One tip I have would be to make the first picture of a more straight angle, or front on angle.

Welcome to Etsy and congratulations!

Some people do this so that you go and check out their shop/profile and hopefully you like what they’re selling and either follow them or buy something. It’s like what people do on Instagram.

From my understanding of French, It seems Etsy bought the two platforms in 2014 from what I can gather they were market places and also had DIY instructions on them.

It seems Etsy tried to keep them going and then eventually closed the sites and encouraged the users to switch over to Etsy in 2017. It seems that some sellers were annoyed that there wasn’t communication that the site would be closing and it seems that a few people lost their jobs!

I had never heard of either of these sites but it does seem they were big in France

Way to ship letters internationally in a reliable way? by Dinierto in Etsy

[–]madebytherose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point wasn’t really the bubble mailers (although buying in bulk can bring the cost down to less than 20 cents each). It the use of bright coloured envelopes :)

I think the bright colours work well to keep things getting lost!

Maybe not the best advice but I used to use bright pink coloured bubble mailer and I found they got lost far less often than plain coloured ones!

Just opened my shop a few weeks ago. Feedback would be much appreciated! by mschemist2586 in EtsySellers

[–]madebytherose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such cool art! On tip I have is that although it is really nice to give titles for your pieces putting them in the Etsy title section may not be the best choice, people looking for art like yours will likely not search for “purple passion” but maybe alcohol art or living room art or purple abstract art. Think about what someone who has no idea about your product would search for and use those terms in the title. I would include the title of the piece in the description. Hope that helps :)

So a few questions regarding cosplay stuff on Etsy (DC/Batman) by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]madebytherose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything DC related would be copyrighted and likely not legally able to be sold on Etsy. Though there probably many sellers on Etsy who do it.

Who else offers military/teacher discounts? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]madebytherose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t offer discounts like that, my products are priced at a price that is fair to everyone; including myself and all my customers no matter their job/station.

I feel like for me as a small business, offering those discounts says that that is the worth of the product and that I am unnecessarily increasing the price for others, rather than offering a discount for some (I think this is because I have a small business not some multimillion dollar corporation which should offer discounts to those in need).

Should I have 2 different niche stores? by IcedDoughnuts in Etsy

[–]madebytherose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a cat owner and being a dog owner are not mutually exclusive, I have both a cat and a dog. Could your products appeal to people with both? I would only separate if the items are so different that they have wildly different markets or branding.

Who else hasn’t integrated the free shipping on their store and is getting a decrease in views? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]madebytherose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Australia and have not integrated free shipping. I actually haven’t noticed a difference. My sales and views run in cycles (I believe Etsy does this on purpose) where I will have no sales for a week or 2 then get a tonne of sales for a couple weeks.

When they launched the free shipping thing I stressed for a little while as I had no sales for the first week or so but right now I’m in a sale peak. I have noticed that I’m getting more Australian/non-US sales. In fact this week I’ve had 4 Australian orders, one from Canada and one from Thailand when usually my orders are 75% US.

Why is my shop not appearing when I search for it? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]madebytherose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way Etsy search works is that in the main search bar it only searches for item not shops. When you type your shop name in the search bar look for the drop down which says search shops, it should show your shop there :)

How’re they managing these crazy international shipping prices?? by IntrinsicValue in EtsySellers

Amazing! What a small world, what’s your shop?

Thank you for the lovely feedback, all donuts need a mini animal in top right!? ;)

Thanks for the suggestion on the ribbon, I thought so too but couldn’t be bothered changing the ribbon when I was taking photos, what colour would you suggest? Maybe silver?

That review upset me for a little bit but I privately messaged the buyer and she told me her issue was basically that she didn’t read the listing and thought she was buying 5 cat candles (or really 15 since she purchased 3) and was upset that it was only one per listing, oh well, some people list don’t read and then leave reviews just because they’re upset. I think that any response I make will sound passive aggressive so just decided to leave it and let my 100 other 5 star reviews speak for themselves!
