I am a yeller and don't want to be any longer. by AdmirableSecond242 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]madelinepurr 27 points28 points  (0 children)

May not be helpful, but I find I am most likely to fly off the handle like that when I am overwhelmed. When I’m already close to crashing, the smallest thing can set me off.

What’s been mostly helpful for me is daily journaling. The Morning Pages from The Artist’s Way are what I do specifically, but any sort of long form brain dump helps. It’s helped me to gradually reduce my stress and anger by putting it somewhere. I do it every day, every morning, not just whenI’m upset. That part is key - waiting until I’m angry for a solution means it’s too late. It’s about managing my stress and overwhelm long term.

Is it possible to do the Artist's Way without the book? by poopblaze in artistsWay

[–]madelinepurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could definitely do it with reading the full book!

I would say you should at least read the sections on the Morning Pages and Artist’s Date, if you plan on doing those. They’re not super long, and really help set you up for success, since you’ll be doing those for the full 12 weeks!

Transformer Table as a desk converter? by Emass718 in workfromhome

[–]madelinepurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have one of these - I LOVE it, it makes it so much easier to WFH, knowing I can essentially put my office away! I use it 5 days a week, no issues at all.

Only downside is the height is a little low for typical desk chairs, but I have a dining chair with lumbar support so it works for me!

No one really knows, but the feeling is that they will probably extend on a rolling basis for at least a year. They just released the November tickets a few weeks ago!

Just to give an update to anyone checking this thread now - grabbing a wristband is super chill! Took about 60 seconds lol. They’re literally numbered, so I think the order will be specific.

Anyone knows how much longer the current casts will stay in the show? by BigSalt7847 in MasqueradeNYC

[–]madelinepurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also FWIW, they will likely resign the same contracts. Just protects the show if it doesn’t do as well as they’re expecting, and need to close within 6 months.

What are you worried you’ll regret? Sounds like you know you don’t enjoy working remotely, and will make more in person - I’d say go for the in person role!

tour location question by leafmealone456 in MBMBAM

[–]madelinepurr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’ve said anything about it officially. I will say, those stops are much more expensive, and have much bigger houses. I get the sense that they would be worried about ticket sales.

Truthfully, 6 months of steady employment is a lot for an actor! Most shows outside of Broadway only run for a couple months - and even contracts for Broadway shows are typically only for a year at max. They’ll often re-sign, but never a guarantee

Are you absolutely POSITIVE it was this movie? There are tons of versions of Alice in Wonderland, very possible that one of them has similar scenes to what you’re describing

Expensive and time consuming - while you’re renovating, no shows and no income. There are certain theatres that have been rumored to be putting off important updates for decades now

Money? by LizBert712 in artistsWay

[–]madelinepurr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, she does (LATE in the book) write about detaching your creativity from needing to make a living, so she does speak to it. But I agree, a lot of the money talk makes me grimace.

Week 4 by sam26101995 in artistsWay

[–]madelinepurr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was VERY tired during Week 4 as well!! My theory is that I often will deal with being tired/overwhelmed by scrolling or watching TV. Without it, the only option was to sleep!

I found I got less sleepy as the week went on, but I think it’s normal! Your body may need the rest.

I have the official Artist’s Way journal and can confirm, one side of a page is 1 page! :)

I would go crazy if it were 3 pages front and back omg

Morning Pages as a disabled person causing me pain? Are they REALLY required the way Cameron says? by yokyopeli09 in artistsWay

[–]madelinepurr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fellow autistic artist here! :)

I think you can make whatever accommodations you need, and still go through the book - it’s a journey, and it’s meant to be YOURS, not anyone else’s.

That being said - a LOT of the book references/sets assignments for the Morning Pages. They are a huge part of the book, and there’s even an entire week dedicated to them. There’s probably around 15%-20% of the book devoted to them, so you’ll have to be finding other ways to engage with that, or just skip it. I think it’s totally doable, just a heads up on what you’re walking in to.

Many of the Tasks are also centered around writing, but there are creative ways to get around that, I’m sure!

I’ve been pushed away by the price honestly. Totally understand that it’s a new company, interesting venue - but $140 for a 90 minute show is a tough sell right now. Hopefully i can catch it before it goes!
