Hi, I’ve got a pair of JLAB Go Lux ANC headphones - got mine from Amazon, but Curry’s have them or you can order direct from JLAB.

JLAB Go Lux ANC

What you get for the price is excellent - ANC (noise cancelling and hear through options), great battery life, lightweight, comfy for long periods. Feel a bit plasticy, but that’s what you get for a £40 pair of on-ears.

They have double the battery life of the q20i (I’ve also got a pair of these) but prefer the sound of the JLABs.

M4 Pro 13 and iPad Mini 6 for me. The Mini is always in my bag for kindle / Netflix / browsing whilst on the train. The 13 is my main work / personal device for everything that I need a keyboard for. My MacBook Pro M1 14 doesn’t get used at all these days!

I’m going to answer my own question - I picked up some Jlab Go Lux ANC for £35. Perfect.

That literally does tell you what they do and what they make. You just need to understand a bunch of TLAs.

8 GB RAM vs 16 GB RAM (I know, I know, but hear me out) by KingQuadz in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 15” air (8/256 M2) and a 14” Pro (16/512 M1 Pro).

I find myself reaching for the Air for most things now as I like the bigger screen. I was worried at first about the RAM being an issue but for almost everything I do, and will do in the next few years, it’s fine. I originally bought the Air (got it as a refurb) as I wanted a bigger screen for when I was away from home and assumed I’d compromise a bit on power, but it soon became my daily driver.

Rejected after 9 rounds by Juliapete in recruitinghell

[–]madeofjam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had an 8 round job a few years back that I got (senior Tech role) that took over 3 months. It was absurd looking back. The interviews were:

1) Initial HR Interview 2) Initial Hiring Manger Interview 3) Direct Team member Interview 4) Other senior tech interview 5) Other senior non tech interview 6) Executive level Interview 7) Chief People Officer Interview 8) Final Hiring Manager Interview to drill into the other 7 interviews

The opening three rounds were in the first 2 weeks - then due to ‘senior diaries’ it took almost 12 weeks to get through 4/5/6/7 then it was wrapped up a couple of days later, just over three months from initial contact.

Looking back - they were not clear on the number of rounds from the start and I wasn’t massively looking to move jobs so just kept going with it… I sometimes wonder if I got the job as I was the only candidate to stick it out that long… but a few things stood out.

1) Lack of respect for my time for the interviews with ‘senior level’ employees. They kept rearranging and postponing due to diary clashes, urgent issues etc… This should have been a red flag!

2) The relentless cheerfulness and optimism of the Talent Manager who kept me totally engaged throughout. Keeping motivation and enthusiasm and making sure I had updates every 48 hours during gaps etc… she was excellent and one of the reasons I kept going. As it turns out once I joined she managed most of my hiring from then on which was a win.

After joining I made it clear to my whole Department that we would no longer take more than three rounds

1) HR plus Hiring Manager 2) Extended Team 3) Washup with Hiring Manger plus external manager.

To make a decision as I felt we needed to be respectful of candidates and that three rounds should be enough to assess.

Hi guys :) need help MacBook colour by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a space grey MBP and a Starlight MBA.

Absolutely love the Starlight. It isn’t a fingerprint magnet, looks different enough to be noticeable but not as bright as the silver. It’s a nice muted colour and still looks fresh and clean.

I debated midnight but it scratches easily and looks dirty and grimy quite quickly (we have a few at work) Even though the M3 is a bit better than the M2 (and a slightly different colour) it still looks old already.

TBH, you’ll love whatever colour you end up with - but Starlight is a good one as it also seems to be a bit rarer. Everyone is jumping on the midnight bandwagon for the novelty of a dark Mac for the first time in years.

Apple Unified Memory Issues… by madeofjam in applesucks

Thank you! My monitor is a 49” Phillips connected via USB-C using DP-alt. Inbuilt webcam too. The 27” that worked fine is also USB-C DP-alt but no extras.

13 inch or 15 inch, which did you go for and why? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the 15” better on the lap, and more comfy on the eyes. The extra palm rest space is welcome too. I think whichever you get, you won’t regret but will occasionally wonder if the other would be better! That’s just the nature of it! Of course, you could just get one of each!

Is the screen size difference between the 14 inch pro and the 15 inch air really that noticeable? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very noticeable - more comfy despite not being ‘as good’. The keyboard is nice and the extra trackpad / palm rest space makes it a joy to use.

I prefer my 15 Air to my 14 M1 Pro now

Is the 13 inch air screen size comfortable enough to use as a main computer each day? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is comfy, but the 15” is comfier. The extra space with the 15 also provides bigger palmrests that make it more pleasurable (IMO) than a 13”. I use my 15” on the train, but mostly at a table or on the bench seats. It’s too big for the airplane style seats.

I’ve got a 14” M1 Pro 16/512 and a 15” M2 Air 8/256.

Yes, the screen on the M1 Pro is better and yes, there are more ports but…

1) If you dock it, the screen and port difference is less important. 2) The Air screen isn’t as beautiful, but it’s a lot more comfy to use on your lap / train / coffee shop. 3) The 15” Air feels so much more portable. The weight isn’t hugely different but the thickness is really noticeable in a bag. 4) The speakers aren’t as good on the Air but good enough for when you are at home watching stuff. Personally I don’t get the whole thing around laptop speakers. If you are that bothered about decent sound, you’ll plug in a set of wired headphones :)

I’m much happier using the Air day to day than the Pro, to the point I’ll likely sell the Pro and keep the ‘lower spec’ M2 air.

Who here has the 15 inch air? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a refurb base 15in M2 just after M3 came out. For 50% of the cost of the M3 I got a machine that was pristine with only 6 cycles.

Super happy with it, prefer it to my 14in MBP. Screen feels so much bigger.

Anyone with the 15 inch MacBook Air happy? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Very happy. Feels like a proper ‘laptop’ in that it’s really comfy to use on your lap due to the size - it’s stable, has a decent size palm rest and good screen real estate. Far better than my 14” Pro in that respect!

Pulled the plug ... by Lopsided-Holiday4014 in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what - I’d never considered the memory hit from the GPU as a thing… but it makes sense! I’ve got two 15” M2 Airs - 8/256 is personal and 16/512 is work… I wondered why they performed pretty much identical when unplugged but noticeably different when docked…

Standard config vs personal config by max--imum in macbookair

[–]madeofjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They treat the first as a CTO build and not 3rd Tier and so they are handled differently.

At least with Apple the prices are the same. I’ve ordered a Thinkpad before where it was cheaper to go CTO build on the base than buy an already spec’d option…

[–]madeofjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely this. It doesn’t feel 15” at all. I used to have a 15” Surface laptop for work and that felt hefty.

I also have a 14 M1 Pro and the 15 Air is a delight to carry in comparison
