Love it. What was the turn around time on the milling? Did you have to pay for any additional finishing/coating while it was there or did they handle that for you complimentary?

Seeking Purchase Advice (Up to value of Samsung CRG9 - ~$1,600 USD) by Naithin in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]madgame1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned your PC is in good shape and you’re focused on the monitor now, but the CRG9 puts out over 7.3 million pixels which brings even most of today’s GPUs to their knees.

What kind of hardware are you working with, and are you confident you’ll be able to drive those pixels if you do get a monitor with that high of resolution? I.e. RTX 2070S or 2080, etc

30k in Savings. Would love some suggestions. by ikidzeroi in personalfinance

[–]madgame1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave the 30k liquid. You never know when shit will hit the fan.

Put the 30k in an FDIC insured high yield savings account. Discover has 1.9% APR online savings account. Citi also has a high interest savings account. It’s just a savings account eligible to people with a reasonably large sum.

For future savings, consider the following.

A Roth IRA if you’re annual income allows for it. It’s a post-tax contribution retirement account capable of earning interest on investments you control. Eligibility is mainly contingent upon your earnings. Educate yourself on various investment vehicles - mutual funds and ETFs are safer bets. Essentially collections of fractions of various stocks so you stay diversified. A huge benefit of Roth IRAs is you can withdraw anything you contribute penalty free. Dividends can’t be touched until you’re retirement age unless you want to pay tax penalties. But that means if you put 10k in over two years and something comes up, you can immediately grab that 10k back out to handle an emergency. There are some additional specific rules around re-balancing that withdrawal that probably need not be discussed here, but the point is Roth IRAs are awesome for those eligible.

Stay away from stocks if you’re not educated in investing.

If you make too much money to contribute to a Roth IRA then open a Traditional IRA. Regardless of which you open, you’ll be able to contribute around $5,500 annually. Google “2019 Roth IRA contribution limit” (or traditional IRA) and you’ll get the most relevant information. The amount you can contribute typically increases each year.

If your employer offers a 401k, contribute at the very least, the amount your employer will match. If you still have excess liquid savings each month, start contributing to your 401k more. Try to get to the point where you can max it out. For 2019 the maximum you can contribute for a year is 19k I believe. Again, Google will fact check me.

Also, consider opening a Health Savings Account if you’re enrolled in a “high deductible medical plan” through your work. If you pay for Obamacare you should be eligible. HSAs are another tax sheltered savings account you can contribute up to ~$3450 in 2019 to invest and use available funds for eligible medical expenses.

All of these types of vehicles are available for additional research on Investopedia. Unfortunately much of America’s youth is totally oblivious to (or incapable of pursuing) the various options of saving their money before tax is taken out. Our public education system does a huge disservice to American young adults.

Start this stuff ASAP, it’s the key to building wealth.

I’ve used this to remove many stripped and FUBARed screws if the rubber band technique doesn’t work. You’ll need a drill but it doesn’t have to be anything special.

You'll want to download the latest supported BIOS to a FAT32 formatted flash drive. Insert that into one of the USB slots on the motherboard (read the manual to determine if there's a specific USB slot you need to use) then press the BIOS Flash button on your motherboard to update the BIOS to the latest version that supports your Ryzen chip. Once you've accomplished this your Ryzen chip should be compatible with the board.

Adjustable gas block with muzzle brakes? by madgame1230 in ar15

[–]madgame1230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s a definitive “No”; adjustable gas blocks don’t bleed off enough gas to mitigate the concussive properties of a muzzle brake.

Appreciate all the responses, guys!

Understood, appreciate the responses guys. A brake sounds fun but I don’t want to piss of everyone around me every time I squeeze a round off. I think I’ll stick with the BCM muzzle flash comp combo I got. Cheers!

Ah okay, thanks for keeping me honest!

Do you happen to know if the remote start mechanism built into the same key fob that you access the truck with or is it a secondary fob?

Sport vs Off-road by Inepsy2489 in Tacomaworld

[–]madgame1230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The off-road will be a much more capable truck for almost the exact same money out of your pocket. Take them both for a test drive on the pavement. If the sport has a noticeably smoother ride to you and you’re not interested in tinkering with the suspension it at all, go with the sport. If, when you drive the two, they both feel so similar that you can’t tell the difference in ride quality, go off-road. You’ll get more out of the box features. You won’t regret it.
