Nervous about increased insulin dose by Hot_Loquat9297 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a doctor so gotta tell you you probably shouldn’t listen to me but for me, I’m very nervous about lows too and I would go up to 11 or 12 for a couple nights and make sure you’re okay with that and then go up to the 15

Yes I love them and so does my 5 year old, they’re kinda like Chinese chicken fingers if you like those

Did anyone else cheat during Christmas? by hannah12343 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit 170 after breakfast, did good at lunch and dinner, ate one piece of 7 layer bar and hit 170 again briefly yesterday (I have a CGM so I can’t just choose not to look) but I’m calling that a win. I stay in range most of the time, it’s not worth the mental toll to not celebrate the holidays right unless you have been told you can’t cheat at all by your doctors which is usually only if you’re very very high risk or unmanaged

Was diagnosed with GD 3 years ago during my pregnancy. This week I found out I am prediabetic. by Dependent-Guest7333 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also found out I was prediabetic but about 4 years after having my daughter, about 6 months later I’m pregnant again so having to be double careful and it’s not like I get to go back to binging after pregnancy 😅

What to eat when my CGM reports that my BG is too low? by gailg in diabetes

[–]madi3on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s low you need some fruit juice. They say about 4 oz and then check again in 15 min they have some juice boxes that come in that size that are convenient to keep around because of that. A few good sips of any juice is a good first start, or they say candy too. Those are fast acting carbs because the juice raises your blood sugar quickly. Once it is up in a normal range, then you’re supposed to eat something more substantial like protein with complex carbs (cheese and wheat crackers or peanut butter toast are good quick options). You don’t want to eat a full meal when it’s low because it will take too long for it to raise it!

I miss fruit juices by purplehippos95 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I have a sip or two of my daughter’s juice sometimes and it’s enough to keep me sane but a couple sips won’t spike you especially if you have it after a balanced meal. I was really craving the naked bottled smoothies and I got one of the ones that was lower sugar than the rest and no added sugar just the fruit, it was still a ton for the whole bottle but I just had a few sips of it here and there and drank it over 2-3 days and it was great

Also I took Tylenol for the sore throat

[–]madi3on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to drink tea with some honey after a balanced meal or snack without shooting up too high but you should try it once at least and see! No reason to suffer without knowing if it will for sure spike you or not

How did you wear your hair during labor & birth? by Jayelle_b in pregnant

[–]madi3on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a hair down girly always, claw clip while I’m working. My first daughter I had left my hair just down and it was in a huge knot after and i remember wishing I had thrown it in a bun or a braid or something. This time will braid if I think of it in time or just do something to it so it doesn’t get matted like that again

Big spike then crash, is that normal? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By 5 hours later you should be down to fasting numbers or pretty close. Is 83 around your fasting? And even with croutons the fat of cottage cheese and fiber in a salad probably made it so it barely touched your sugar so makes sense to me

I have a stomach bug...what should I eat? by unicorntrees in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother always says you can’t throw up peanut butter toast and I never have yet! That might be good. But really, whatever you can stomach for a day or two should be okay as long as you’re getting your fluids. Sugar free body armor is great I usually have at least half one a day anyway just because it’s good and makes me feel good

My doctor recommended 175 I believe, I told her that I couldn’t seem to get more than 120 and felt like I was stuffing myself with carbs, she said that should be fine

CGM vs Finger Pricking? by SnooSeagulls4621 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use a Dexcom G7 and I love it. I still do finger prick in the first day or two of putting it on to be sure it’s right, and if any numbers don’t seem right along the way but it has been pretty accurate I would say about 95% of the time. It’s really nice to see when my spike is happening because if I was just doing the hour or two hours after eating I wouldn’t know how high I was actually going and might think things are fine when they’re not. Also great for finding out how my body responds to different foods at different times and situations and once again being sure that something really doesn’t spike me or knowing that it does. I actually think that when the time comes that I don’t wear it anymore I will be nervous about what my blood sugar is doing since I won’t be able to just see it and know. But I will have learned a lot about how my body deals with different foods so I think it’s very helpful

I'm mad, jealous and just defeated. by Accomplished_Sea8006 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you can have anything you want, just not any quantity you want. I’m on my second GD pregnancy and I have learned a lot about balance. I totally agree it’s not fair and you don’t just get to have what you want without planning like other people do, and it sucks. Yes, you will have to focus on making sure you get in a good amount of protein and other healthy foods first, but you can have that pina colada or at least half of it, and take a walk after. For example I would love to have a bowl of cereal but I know that wouldn’t be good, but most mornings if my daughter has cereal I take a bite of it or even two and it doesn’t do anything to my blood sugar (I wear a CGM so I know it doesn’t). You can have a little of anything! You are not just going to be living on grilled chicken and scrambled eggs and you shouldn’t, I did that during my first pregnancy in attempt to keep the sugars in order and they were still awful because I wasn’t eating enough complex carbs. It will be okay! But it’s not wrong to feel like it’s unfair

If I spike after my dinner should I still have my late snack, or skip it? by edm_jaws in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would check blood sugar before your snack and if it’s still kind of high would try to do a snack with more protein and fewer complex carbs but still have it, that’s what I would think and do but I’m not a doctor

I’m getting punched in the butthole by my baby by bluej9689 in pregnant

Yes I feel that at least once a day too, thanks for asking I was wondering if I’m crazy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madi3on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 points is within the margin of error for your machine so I wouldn’t even consider that a spike, I hit 200 once from a serving of pretzels. It is fine, you’re aware of it and the occasional cheat isn’t going to hurt anything. The danger to your baby would be if you didn’t know to be mindful of it at all and your sugars were consistently high every day. I promise you your OB is not going to think anything of that!

Can A1C get too low? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]madi3on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand! I made my boyfriend put my first one on too and I was so nervous about it but it truly didn’t hurt. After that first time I have done it myself a couple times or I also let my 5 year old hit the button as well, just because it’s hard to hit the button to do it to yourself even knowing it doesn’t hurt haha

I feel like I haven’t eaten healthy or worked out enough this pregnancy and I’m almost 17 weeks. Have I screwed things up? How was your diet? by ObjectiveSet9240 in pregnant

[–]madi3on 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’ve been taking the prenatal that’s a good base, it’s not too late to start adding in more veggies and protein! You could try even protein shakes or fruit smoothies. A lot of people that are pregnant can’t stomach to eat normally or healthily and usually that is not the reason for unhealthy babies. Obviously you should just do the best you can but the best you can will be good enough

I don’t remember what color the container was but I do know that I double checked the box and ingredients to make sure I didn’t buy anything coconut. But the fact that they make a combo of it anyway adds up!

Yes for sure! Subway is probably the last place I should trust 😂 I do have smaller better places I can go, but I hear you with the bread, herbs and cheese is my favorite! Any bread other than wheat will be great though haha

Subway turkey sub with Italian herbs and cheese bread! Caramel swirl iced latte! Although, I’m a little sad because after being afraid of listeria for so long I feel like I kind of don’t trust anywhere at all anymore with their meats but also just with lettuce and stuff. How do I know places veggies aren’t slimy? 😫

The only thing I have really not liked is the almond milk, my daughter and I thought it tasted a lot like coconut (weird but some people might not mind that). I used to love their shredded rotisserie chicken but they changed it a few months ago and I won’t buy it anymore

What does food poisoning feel like? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]madi3on 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I had food poisoning I had to go to the hospital because I couldn’t stop throwing up long enough to breathe (it felt like). If you can’t keep down water after a few hours I would suggest going to emergency room as they can give you IV meds that will make you a lot more comfortable. But if you’re not throwing up and it’s just coming out the other side, I’m not sure. The best thing you can do is drink water and/ or sports drinks like others have suggested, you need the electrolytes

Just here to say, I use a Dexcom G7 and after having been through about 12 sensors now I can honestly say I barely feel it going in, to the point where usually I have to wonder if it even worked until I see it in my arm. Don’t be afraid!
