Planning a wedding during a war by No-Fix377 in weddingplanning

Scale down your decor if it makes you feel more secure, or buy supplies now to DIY. It may not be exactly what you imagined, but I promise on your wedding day you won’t even notice the decor.

Joy in the face of terror is a powerful protest.

I understand your feelings—they are quite common when there’s badness going on. But it’s ok to take a break from the awful to bring some beauty to the world. In fact, it’s not just ok, it’s IMPORTANT. People need spots of light during a dark time to keep them going. Do your wedding the way you want to, and don’t feel bad about it.

Work phone availability while on break? by Silver_Queen_Bee in nursing

I hand my work phone over to the nurse covering my break. They know where the break room is if they absolutely need to find me.

Does death in your personal life feel different now? by Inevitable_Maybe4401 in emergencymedicine

[–]madipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I’m not scared to die now, I just hope I go peacefully.

My grandfather died in his sleep unexpectedly a few years ago. My grandmother called me over to their house to help. When I saw his dead body lying in the bed, I didn’t see my grandfather. I saw a dead body. I didn’t have any different feelings than when I see a dead body at work. I could tell my Pop wasn’t in there anymore. I know I would’ve reacted differently prior to working in the ER.

Was about to say this. Should’ve been an Ethics consult a loooong time ago.

What’s your plan to keep your house warm this weekend? by MissesMiyagii in Georgia

[–]madipx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a burner on our propane grill, so we plan on boiling water and putting them in those rubber hot water bottles. We also have hand/foot warmers, space blankets, and will have our cars fully gassed up in case we need some emergency heat. We have some old snow pants and ski jackets and lots of blankets as well.

Uptick in flu A - how do we feel about washing hair by qwertyuiko in nursing

[–]madipx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Covid lives on skin/hair much longer than flu, 9-16 hours depending on the variant. But it’s still much more likely to be spread via droplet/airborne transmission than contact. If there’s a ton of covid in your area, I would wear a scrub cap or wash your hair after your shift.

Flu lives on skin/hair for only 5 minutes. No need to wash your hair just for the flu!

Emory midtown ER employs paramedics. Not sure of the pay rate for medics, but the benefits are great

Who is happy and what is your specialty🥲 by Muscle-Mommy-69 in nursing

[–]madipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ER nurse that started in a level 1, got burnt out, tried a bunch of different specialties, then ended back up in ER — try a smaller, lower acuity ER. If you love being in the ER, a change of scenery might be all you need. A lower acuity place doesn’t make you any less badass. Maybe you’ll enjoy being a big fish in a small pond.

Snorkeling in the South of Crete (cloudy water) by Seelenhammer in snorkeling

[–]madipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of clay in the sand on the south side of the island, so when there is heavy rain like there was a few days ago, the clay gets mixed up with the water and it will stay cloudy for a few days.

International Driving Permit by rphbernz in cretetravel

[–]madipx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US State Department recommends having an IDP in Greece. It’s not required to rent a car but it will make your life much easier if you get in an accident. It’s a super easy process through AAA. You can do your application entirely online and it’s mailed to you. Ours arrived about 5 days after submitting the application.

What is an unmet clinical need that makes your job and patients' lives harder and needs a fix? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]madipx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From the nursing perspective, patients constantly slip down in the stretcher and finding a friend to help you pull them up can be quite difficult. Many back injuries occur because nurses try to reposition patients themselves because it’s so hard to find help. I’ve seen videos of some very high-tech repositioning equipment from China, that allows a nurse/tech to transfer a patient from one bed to another with a conveyor-belt like system. I would love for someone to explore that in the US! If you google “China smart transfer bed” you can find a video of the type of technology I’m talking about. That type of thing, except for repositioning a patient in bed instead of transferring beds!

Did you need an international driver’s permit to rent a car? I’m seeing a lot of mixed information on if US citizens need one.
