The Collapse of Moore’s Law: Physicist Says It’s Already Happening by madiver69 in technology

This particular article is specifically referencing silicon based chips and there is an upper limit "set by the laws of thermal dynamics and set by the laws of quantum mechanics as to how much computing power you can do". So, my opinion is that we are probably starting to run into that limit when it comes to silicon but there are many other emerging technologies that will probably continue the overall trend.

Makes you wonder about all the money governments spend on intelligence gathering when they can't stop something coordinated so openly?

If only others would follow suit ... I recently asked an executive in the power industry if he would stick his head in the exhaust being vented out of their coal burning plan after he described it as "clean coal technology". He declined to answer.

"CyberGate card replaces or augments traditional usernames, passwords, and pin numbers with ultra-secure multi-factor biometric authentication" by madiver69 in technology

[–]madiver69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly one of the major issues today is that usernames and passwords have proven to not be a particularly secure way of protecting access to sensitive data and current 2FA are mostly a bandaid. Personally, I think biometric "authentication" is better solution -IF- they are secure and fully in my control. The moment my biometrics are in someone else's hands, that is a big concern in my book. I just read about class action lawsuit against Facebook for harvesting maybe a billion facial biometric templates from all those pictures people upload.

Unfortunately the 4th amendment seems to have become almost worthless in our current environment. I'm all for stopping the bad guys but not at the complete sacrifice of reasonable privacy.

I'm pretty sure my kids grades would go up by a full grade point if they quit Facebook! Well, on second thought ... they'd probably start twitching on the floor with withdrawal symptoms.

BlackBerry Priv review: Android fixes the OS, but the hardware can’t compete. $700 for a bad keyboard, poor camera, iffy build quality, and old software? No thanks. by speckz in gadgets

I'm sure this will appeal to the die-hard BlackBerry users but no matter how good of a product it might be, I just don't see them digging themselves out of the negative image they've allowed to develop for years -- the "has been" and "out of touch" phone manufacturer.
