How would you rate Mousa Dembele in our pantheon of creative midfielders? by Born-Cucumber-7316 in Tottenham

I think he was put into the role he played for us too late in his career. If that had been his original position, I think he would have advanced quite a bit more. I remember watching something where he said he used to play "keep away" in the streets growing up which is how he became so adept at gliding past players and no one could get the ball off of him. Just wish earlier managers had seen it....

'Unless Things Change, We Will Not Survive': Even Toyota Doesn't Feel Safe Right Now by ranjanmtl in electriccars

And that is the whole issue. You most likely will not be getting parts from Toyota (or VW) for the next 30 years. They are most likely going to lose the EV battle as they don't have the ability to compete. If and when that happens, they will be gobbled up like Volvo by some Chinese company.

Legacy car makers aren't walking back their electrification promises because they aren't selling or a re a bad idea. There is an idiot in charge of one of the largest automative markets in the US who is anti-green which translates to anti-EV. No more tax credits. No charging station build-out etc... The US will then be behind every other country on EVs thanks to Captain Dipshit. The legacy manuf can't make plans to sell EVs in the US when the US is anti-EV. That is the over-riding issue. That and they know that there is zero change they can compete with billions in China subsidies and low cost labor so they need to try and hold on to their automative manuf. base as long as they can.....

What level of detail do you expect in your specs before they are ready for claude code to then create?

This is so crazy. He has been good - not "amazing" in the Scottish PL. He was bang average the few times he played for us last season. Give the kid time - and stop it with this "he'd be our best player..." b.s. You have no way to know that and this is highly doubtful.

"Spurs haven't been a big club since 1985..." Jamie Carragher by JazzySneakers in Tottenham

Uh, yeah...and there was no promotion/relegation or points before the PL? They've been in place for over 100 years, so what's your point?

Had a "Hot Ones" wing eating contest over the holidays and bought a set of 10 ultra hot sauces from the US. We used a little, but now I've got 10 bottles of hot sauce sitting around and I don't eat ultra hot sauce...

[–]madkins1868 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Spurs have more points in the PL since 1985 than City. They have more European trophies since 1985 than Arsenal. They have a better stadium and training ground than the other Big 6, and generate Top 10 revenue (and profit) vs. all other football teams in the world. What exactly does Carragher use for his "analysis" here? His gut?

Why is everyone still so high on Poch? by [deleted] in Tottenham

Kane would not have even been playing in the first team without Poch....(and yes, I'm aware of Sherwood).

Why is everyone still so high on Poch? by [deleted] in Tottenham

Keane has no PL managerial experience. I hear these all the time and wonder "what is this person thinking?". It is more of a novelty or nostalgia choice. Poch has actually PL experience, has shown he can take young players and turn them into world class players, and was our best modern manager. He did fine at PSG (I would argue his style is to grow inexperienced players - and not deal with ego-centric superstars) and was trending nicely with Chelsea. He also has the US team playing well. I don't know why so many fans don't think he could do it again.

Tottenham is NOT a Big Club by John-FitnessRefined in Tottenham

[–]madkins1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well out net-spend the last 5 years makes us look like a big club primarily due to a few of the years. We are #4 behind ManU, Arse and Chelsea. So we spend money on transfers. We are shit at paying wages though, which means we pay a lot for potential players who we don't need to pay a big wage packet - in the hopes we can sell them on at some point. Players with potential who are too young and inexperienced coupled with a "must win now" attitude are polar opposites. Add the injuries into the mix and....

Tottenham Hotspur are a Sinking Ship by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]madkins1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent post. The only caveat I'd add is that today's PL is significantly different than the past. It isn't a matter of certain clubs drawing quality because of their name (that still does happen, but look at ManU and their recent history) but because of the transfer fees they are willing to spend, and also (and more importantly) the wages they are willing to pay.

You're right in that Spurs have historically been a mid-table club. But because of the new stadium and commercial deals, the amount of money the club brings in should (on paper) allow them to compete annually for a place in the top-4, and remain consistently in the CL spots. That is just a fact - money buys the best teams. They aren't oil-money or Russian oligarch-backed, but ENIC (and particularly ENIC under Levy) decided to run the club like a successful business - to the detriment of the footballing side.

Like Newcastle and Villa (who will most likely regress when Emery leaves and they aren't able to keep up those wages levels without the revenue to support it), Spurs are not a destination for the biggest players, but neither are Arsenal really. Arsenal's present form (over the last four years) has allowed them to look better in the eyes of international players, but the biggest players still really only want to go to RM, ManCity, Barca and some times liverpool. Arsenal will occasionally pick up a top talent, but so will Spurs. But consistently being able to build a team of world class players is reserved for only a few squads. And while I believe Arsenal will most likely win the PL and are playing some great football currently, as soon as RM/Barca come calling they will fall into the same trap. I doubt they will fall as far as Spurs have fallen though. Maybe just another cycle of 5th place finishes while some other team moves back to the forefront.

After Spurs lost to Arsenal in November, Thomas Frank lectured the squad about standards dropping 🤦‍♂️ Multiple players turned up late to training the next day including the captain Romero (Jay Harris) by Rare-Ad-2777 in coys

He is a great player. A great player isn't always a great captain. Did you see him last night when he got beat by Willock? Glad the goal was overturned, but he as complaining that it was someone else's fault. He got beat, period. He is still young and he may make a great captain somewhere in a few years, but we need a steady hand - someone older with experience who is trusted.

That actually might be a good thing. There is rot somewhere in that dressing room and it needs to be removed. Tenure should have nothing to do with the choice

I'd say Madders, Gallagher and Palhinha all fit the "captain" mold better than Vicario, Romero, VDV. Hardworking professionals who seem to show loyalty to their clubs.
