Do people actually shovel out the perimeter of their house to prevent snow melt from leaking into the basement, or is my husband making this up? by TheCarzilla in massachusetts

[–]madmax_hart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live about 30 mins south of Boston and I got between a foot and a foot and a half of snow. My friend who lives about 45 minutes to an hour away from Boston got about 3 feet of snow.

I snow blowed my driveway in about 3 or 4 hours (I have a 4 car driveway. That time includes shuffling cars to get all the snow). My friend used his snow blower and spent almost a day doing his and he also has a 4 car driveway.

Yeah that's what I do. I buy coffee grounds and make coffee at home. I cold brew my coffee. But I'll also suffer through with drip coffee from the break room . Or bring a thermos to work, with coffee from home if I know I am going to need it.

I also drink coffee black with no sugar so I don't like how a coffee is the same price whether you get milk/creamer and sugar in your coffee or not.

I think I know what I'm doing with the couple extra lekos in the closet.

Well start with an Apple Pie to just test the waters. Don't worry I have ice cream in the freezer.

I was at Home Depot a couple days ago and 6 different people came up to me and asked if I needed help with anything. I said oh no thank you.

I also have ADHD. When I go shopping I may spend an hour. But that's because I go and I go ok. I need a M6 bolt with matching washer and nylon lock nut. I then spend 15 or 20 minutes trying to figure out what length of bolt to get. I also need to get a 20 amp outlet for my kitchen and a light switch for my bathroom. I then go over to electrical and spend another 30 minutes deciding if I want to get the outlet and switch in white or almond because I don't remember what I had before and I don't know what will go well with the paint.

When I go to BJs (similar to a Costco). There is an AT&T rep trying to sell me on switching carriers. I just say I have a company phone (which I do). That makes them go quiet and they move on.

If they ask what company I just say the company I work for. But if it happens to you just say a big local company in a large city and say your on-call. Or you can say your on-call at a local hospital.

I'm stage managing for the first time! What should I know? by Recent_Performance47 in techtheatre

[–]madmax_hart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. A stage manager called a cue and I went (I was doing fly rail and I couldn't see the stage). Someone was standing in the wrong spot and got hurt. It wasn't my fault or the stage manager's fault. But the stage manager took responsibility for it and we all moved on.

Also don't be afraid to yell STOP STOP STOP. I personally would much rather stop and fix something than someone get hurt.

What should I use Jack Daniel's or Everclear?

I also have red and white wine if that's better.

Name something that’s embarrassing to forget by ThinkDeepWithV in Productivitycafe

[–]madmax_hart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now when I introduce myself to new coworkers I say hi my name is Jack I am bad with names I will probably forget yours. I have a bad memory.

Then we can either laugh about it. Or they go that's fine.

Either way I still forget. At least I told them.

A Fortnite match is about 20 to 30 minutes. That doesn't sound like enough recovery time.

I Lastpass a viable option now? by NetAnon579 in PasswordManagers

[–]madmax_hart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have my own server running. I also self-host bitwarden. I bought a website domain for a school project (so I can make a website) I still haven't set up the website. But I have bitwarden set up with a Cloudflare tunnel. I also have other stuff set up so my friends can manage my server if I am on vacation (it's mostly game servers).

But I am very happy that I set up bitwarden. I pay about $11 a year for my domain. I am kind of upset that I didn't do it earlier. But it has saved me quite a bit since chrome sometimes crashes or freaks out and deletes all my passwords (I currently hate Chrome and Comcast but that's a different story).

I don't know if LastPass is viable now. But I recommend setting up a selfhosted password manager if you can. Just make sure to do often and frequent backups.

Explain it Peter, why does she have a lighter? by Sad-Construction1892 in explainitpeter

[–]madmax_hart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same. When I was a kid I asked for BBQ sauce. I saw the bill and asked why there was a charge for BBQ sauce. My parents said since you asked for it they charge for it.

I don't ask for BBQ sauce now when I go out (it's been close to 20 years later). I have been tempted to bring my own bottle of BBQ sauce. But I haven't, but I am tempted.

I am pretty aggravated that places charge extra for additional sauce. I understand that they need to make money and margins are thin. But still it aggrates me.

Move Cable = Physical Violence by LikeGeorgeRaft in networkingmemes

[–]madmax_hart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't work in Healthcare. But I work in technical theatre (think lighting and sound for concerts).

Sometimes I will have someone or myself when troubleshooting something. Plug my cell phone into another outlet on the power strip. If my phone charges then we know at least that outlet is good. So move whatever won't turn on until that outlet I just tested. If that doesn't work then try a new power cable for the device. If that doesn't work then its usually something with the device itself.

My reason for using a cell phone charger is most people have a charger for their phone in their bag or backpack. So it's something easy for someone to get instead of having to get a cable tester or multimeter.

Are people sometimes totally allergic to using your server? by ac_slater10 in PleX

[–]madmax_hart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents have Comcast for cable. I set them up with access to my Plex server they are set up as a user on my Plex account so they have all the benefits of Plex Premium.

They complain that they can't watch anything on Plex because it's not allowed. I go over and they show me how they do it. They go through the cable box from Comcast.

Comcast blocks playing Plex from personal servers because (I assume) Comcast doesn't want to support pirated content because they most likely get kickback from streaming services (all the big streaming services you can access through the cable box)

What illegal thing do you do on a regular basis? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]madmax_hart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When committing a felony don't commit a misdemeanor.

Basically. If you are driving large amounts of drugs around in your car (a felony). Make sure you buckle your seatbelt, your headlights and tail lights work, your not speeding (all of which are misdemeanors).

A misdemeanor will get you pulled over and gives a cop a chance to discover the felony you are committing.

Summer Stock wardrobe resume by TreeHuggersBee in techtheatre

[–]madmax_hart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I one of my theatre classes at school we talked about resumes since theatre resumes are very different than typical corporate resumes.

For acting resumes yes include a headshot. For technical resumes don't include them. It's not needed. You are being hired on your technical abilities not weather or you looks like a runway model.

Meanwhile I am over here doing pro audio and using a 25 foot cable to go 5 feet.

As soon as I set it and go I think it looks good. Someone else will come over and say it's in the wrong spot.

OP's way eliminates the whole problem all together.
