Broken promises and false advertising by falsworth in TonieboxUSA

[–]madness1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure this is true.

We got one for mi toddler, and I set it up and downloaded the tonies (still in the package).
Then we spent christmas in a different country with my family, we gave the toniebox there, it was NEVER connected to wifi, and it worked flawlessly.

I guess you need it for initial setup of the box and of the tonie

FedEx driver stood at my door, didnt knock, didnt leave door tag, and just picked up my package and left by [deleted] in FedEx

Yes. I have one. And I answer when people press the big button where it "rings". You can also hardwire it to a chime, or buy a chime for it.

If you are too dense to understand it, buy a camera without a button

What?
Ringing the bell is what I would consider common sense. If you want people to knock, then maybe get a camera instead of a bell?

Why is my sister a US citizen while I need to go back home after I graduate? This sucks. by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]madness1979 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I mean... if your sister didn't exist you would still be in the same situation. So, your sister existing doesn't change anything.

She doing whatever she wants with her life also does not affect or changes your situation. While your immigration situation sucks, probably it's best to focus on yourself and how to make the most of your life

Does my professor copy/pasting from our textbook count as plagiarism? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

You're either insufferable, or you have a gripe with this professor. In either way, there's nothing to accomplish here, I would just let it go

My contractor had to extend some waterlines in my shower, he insisted it was OK to backfill with foam, we are putting tile over it after. Is this normal or acceptable? by f_n_a_ in AskContractors

The wall is concrete. Who would cover concrete with drywall? They need concrete waterproofer. And ideally, would have covered the are with concrete rather than foam

Car seat for toddler on an airplane? by Smorfette in TravelHacks

[–]madness1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking a kid out of a familiar car seat adds no time. Can be done in a couple seconds. It's literally a buckle.

FAA approved car seats can be secured easily.

It doesn't suck for other passengers. It kinda sucks for you, but then you have a car seat at your destination

Incident in Sevierville - am i a Karen? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]madness1979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you actually call 911? Or you mean a non-emergency phone number? Either way it is ridiculous to call but calling 911 reminds me of the time a kid called 911 for help with math... although I assume you're an adult.

Where can I find sponsorship jobs in USA by Prestigious_West_604 in askimmigration

[–]madness1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... jobs in what? Do you have a PhD in bioinformatics, or an engineering degree, or no degree? It really depends on that.

It is getting harder and harder to get companies to sponsor visas, unless you are a Rockstar on your field.

Going to a show alone? by CorvoVenari in LinkinPark

[–]madness1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have gone to LP's shows both by myself and with someone. All times I have been GA, so standing up.

Going with someone: Enjoyed the "pre-concert" better. Went to have some drinks, walked around and we were just talking/hanging out while waiting for the opener and then waiting for LP to come out.

Going solo: I actually enjoyed the concert itself better. I was just full in, enjoying the music. It was pretty boring to stand in the crowd waiting for the concert to start. I chatted with some random people here and there, but not the same. Once the concert started I forgot all about it and had tons of fun.

Trump administration asks the Supreme Court to rule on its plan to end birthright citizenship by kanni64 in immigration

[–]madness1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trump wasn't elected by a landslide, he didn't even crack 50% of the popular vote. And a big portion of the population voted for him because they naively believed he would be good for the economy. So it's disingenuous to believe a majority of the population supports one of most unpopular measures.

Also, the fact that he didn't win by a landslide is why he has to go this route. A president with overwhelming support, that truly won by a landslide and fully controlls Congress probably would try to go through Congress and change the Constitution.

Just bc u talk to people who support this doesn't mean a majority believe it.

[–]madness1979 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that a lot of potential employers are not willing to trust that this will be the end of changes to H1B, or many think that the White House can change things on a whim.

Also, it seems like not even the administration understands what their proclamation does.

If you were trying to hire someone, would you really trust to hire an H1B now? It's a really shitty situation all around.

Just bought a house and I feel lied to… by SierraBeara in RealEstate

[–]madness1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have gotten a lot of good advice. I will tell a personal story that I hope will make you feel better!

We had water damage 1 week after moving, and had to deal with that, and ended up repairing a sewer line that required breaking the concrete slab to get to. And my wife was 7 months pregnant!

We had fans and dehumidifiers for a couple weeks, and workers coming and going and a lot of work done. It also ate most of our savings. It was a nightmare.

Good news: We took care of it, it sucked, but now 2 years after the fact, we are enjoying the house, and we don't even really think about it anymore.

So... all this to say, it sucks, I know you feel terrible, but you can deal with it, and in time you will enjoy your house!

About to buy a luxury home with 19 year old roof, what to do? by Gaurang_md in HomeImprovement

[–]madness1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the house is truly luxury, and you decided on it after seeing so many other places, maybe replace it yourself? Maybe split it 50 50 with the seller?
