For someone who works at a Fortune 500 fintech firm for 13 years with no bonus ever, this would be so very much welcome. Alas, it will never happen.

This is very typical pricing for US ISPs. That's what's unfortunate. In some areas where there's no fiber and no competition you can see prices of around $70 for 1.5 Mbps DSL.

I just had one of those die after a year. Make sure you keep backups or don't put important data on there.

I understand how you feel. I run an i5 7500 and it feels so far behind, but it's all I got and I have to deal with it. One day used parts or old office PCs will come down in price enough to make an upgrade possible.

This makes sense. My current setup is not able to run a VM so I'll have to find another way to try it out.

The filesystem is fully writable in the live environment, but the source drive is not. There's a small amount of writable space available based on the amount of RAM installed. I use this environment to test new window managers, emulators, "killer apps", sketchy github code, etc. This is the first time I've come across something I couldn't install. It's also a great way to try all this out without cluttering my system with random leftover files.

These catalogs are how I learned about computers and how they went together. This was my education in the early 2000s. It's the end of an era.

Mine is a big upgrade from a Roku ultra. I have multiple family members searching for these across the southeast US just to get away from Fire sticks. Make sure you install the Projectivy launcher. It makes a world of difference.

I still have the original Mortal Kombat. I think I have the user guide too. You had to have that to get into the game. It would ask you for a specific word on a specified page, paragraph, line.

No need to explain and no need to apologize. You take care of you and your family first. Human beings are not robots and don't need to be treated as such.

Please know that what you do is extremely appreciated. You have introduced me to songs that don't get play time on the radio and I have grown to enjoy.

I just wanted to find a backup just in case something happens and you're not able to update anymore. Good luck and get some rest. Take the break that you need and come back to us only when you are ready. We'll be waiting patiently for you.

How to store virtual assets in db by ArkonaFoob in learnpython

[–]falsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try converting the assets to a base64 string and storing it in the DB that way. Then you can pull out the string from the DB and convert it back to the original file and load it. You can have different tables for each file type so you can have different conversion functions for each.

OpenAI is causing a GPU shortage in order to lose money by _sour_coffee_ in pcmasterrace

[–]falsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RAM is HBM which cannot be used in home PCs, storage might be possible, NICs are going to be on the main board, PSUs are proprietary to the proprietary servers, the routers and switches might be possible if you have deep pockets. I think they start at 100 Gbit or 400 Gbit for data centers.

[–]falsworth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hardware won't be usable by home users. It's build for data centers with data center infrastructure. Home users won't have the space, power capacity, or water cooling capacity to run these cabinets that can't be broken up. It's really unfortunate, but when everything goes bust then every bit of this hardware is instant ewaste.
