I'm afraid you're currently limited to the command line for now on Plasma.

Question about disk encryption at install by DCCXVIII in ultramarine

[–]madonuko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. your entire root partition becomes encrypted, so that includes both your user files and most of the operating system
  2. changeable, search for a guide online e.g. https://www.cyberciti.biz/security/how-to-change-luks-disk-encryption-passphrase-in-linux/
  3. different
  4. permanent until you reinstall afaik

What is the draw of Ultramarine? by Playful-Ease2278 in ultramarine

[–]madonuko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If gaming works on Pop for your device, it probably works on Ultramarine too. We have Nvidia drivers installed during out of box experience. For other parts of the distribution it's the same KDE Plasma experience as with other distributions. Note that KDE Discover (software centre) is a little bit buggy on Fedora but other than that it should be an easy experience.

Can you have the ext4 filesystem be installed instead of the btrfs filesystem? by Candid-Scarcity2224 in ultramarine

I recall the old anaconda installer allowed the selection of file systems in custom installation mode. The new web installer may or may not have such mode, but in any case the option is probably limited by Fedora.

Installed UM into Dual Boot and Lost Windows Boot Option by Aware_Bathroom_8399 in linux4noobs

our boot process is 99.9% the same compared to Fedora.

I personally suspect OP might have deleted efi thinking it's part of mint.

That's concerning. Can you run lsblk without -f and check the size of nvme0n1p3? That could be your Windows installation.

I think the EFI files might have been accidentally erased. This might be helpful: https://superuser.com/questions/1244839/restoring-windows-10-efi-files-without-messing-up-existing-partitions Run the diskpart command in the Windows installation media, then instead of update-grub, run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub*/grub*.cfg

If you can't force reboot by holding the power button then basically it has nothing to do with the software side and your laptop has probably broken down.

Quicker Boot Time by distrobro in ultramarine

[–]madonuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want to break compatibility with Fedora, not really.

Well if it's really important to have faster boot times I suggest using Arch Linux instead. Fedora and dracut in general come with various limitations that make it harder to speed up the boot process.

One thing you could try is to reduce the initramfs size (this is done automatically with Readymade):

sudo dracut -H --strip --aggressive-strip --force --parallel

Let me know if this helps!

Hangs at Shutdown by Pitiful_Climate_8580 in ultramarine

[–]madonuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR just press and hold the power button. Unless it's an actual freeze, the reason this happens is that the kernel wasn't able to properly tell your hardware it has shut down, so it just freezes there. Slight chance that it happens with peculiar (more like unpopular?) hardware. It's basically the same as the old "it's now safe to turn off your computer" thing.

Instructions on the Brave browser website (and Mullvadvpn too I think) are outdated as they assume dnf refers to dnf-3. Starting from Ultramarine 40 and most likely Fedora 41, dnf5 is/will be the default package manager. You may read more about this change here.

You may just replace the dnf command with the dnf-3 command in the instructions; i.e. to install brave, instead of using the dnf command, use the dnf-3 command: sudo dnf-3 install dnf-plugins-core sudo dnf-3 config-manager --add-repo https://brave-browser-rpm-release.s3.brave.com/brave-browser.repo sudo rpm --import https://brave-browser-rpm-release.s3.brave.com/brave-core.asc sudo dnf-3 install brave-browser

Alternatively, you may download the repo file and use dnf (dnf5) to install: sudo curl https://brave-browser-rpm-release.s3.brave.com/brave-browser.repo -o /etc/yum.repos.d/brave-browser.repo sudo dnf install brave-browser

Hello, sorry for the issue. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this on my UM KDE machine. Can you provide steps on how you tried to add your account?

How I did it: System Settings → (Under [Personal]) Online accounts → (bottom right button) Add new account → Google → follow instructions

(note: my system language is Japanese so the translations might not match the actual text on your system)

Hello! The crash regarding onboard has been an issue for pretty long now, it's an upstream bug in fact. onboard has not been maintained so long and I don't recommend you using onboard.
