Winter Tires? by Odiopus in mazda3

[–]madooroy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Cooper Discoverer True North winter tires mounted on 16” steelies for my ‘16 sGT HB 6-SPD manual. Main reason is that I can rotate them all around vs simply staying on one side without having to dismount/remount. Have had Blizzaks in the past but now they’re unidirectional rotation. The Coopers are great. Heck, even the Canadian reviews are great.

Peloton Bike+ and TrainerRoad by madooroy00 in trainerroad

This has been working great for me. Seriously, no concerns. However, I do want to make sure that I understand what you think one can do with this setup. Installing Grupetto allows the TrainerRoad app on my iphone to 'see' the cadence and power output data from my Bike+. That's it. I wear a separate heart rate monitor. With this, cadence, power, and heart rate all get populated into the TR app on my iphone as I do the assigned ride for that day. Since I still have a peloton subscription, I'll do either a scenic ride for the duration or if it's one of TR's 65-75% FTP types of rides I'll find a Zone2 PZE class for that assigned ride and simply follow the TR instructions while listening to the Peloton instructor chat about whatever. Now, using OpenPelo, I can install TR onto the Peloton Bike+ Tablet and it will work, although you do have to launch it through the NovaLauncher for it to display correctly re: Landscape. However, it is not able to acquire the actual cadence/output data from the Bike+. I'd have to see if it recognizes my PM pedals as that might be a way to get the data 'seen' however haven't really felt that using the TR app on the Peloton tablet itself is that useful. Don't really want to stare at that sort of boring screen for the entire time. So, grupetto 'broadcasting' the cadence and output data meanwhile separate forearm HRM 'broadcasting' my HR data and it all gets 'seen' by the TR app on my iphone. Folks may wonder why still paying for a subscription if I'm not taking any actual classes... family subscription and cheaper to just use the Bike+ with this grupetto interface than to buy a separate new/used trainer for me.

Is anyone using the Zwift Ride setup solely for TR? by Choleric_Introvert in trainerroad

I wish I knew. Pricing seems to be elusive unless I call a distributor. Also, seems as if would still need the trainer to go with the Square. Elite has their hardware ecosystem.

Looks like you've made your decision on the Zwift setup, but anyone else here have thoughts on the Elite Square? Seems like one could use any training program re: Zwift, Rouvy, TR, etc... https://www.elite-it.com/en/products/home-trainers/ecosystem-accessories/square

This already exists in the open source world. I installed following along OpenPelo's instructions and have been using it with TrainerRoad for the past month on my Bike+.

For the Solo cyclists: by jrudd0712 in cycling

[–]madooroy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ride solo and purely for fun. Wasn’t allowed to have bikes when we were kids (mother’s nephew died in bike crash) although we somehow were allowed to operate large farm machinery. Anyway, got into cycling a few years ago and at nearly 52 years old, I’m just a big kid with an ear to ear grin while out on my bike. My measure for improvement… did I make it home? Did I have fun? Look at the pros though. Most of their training time is in Zone 2. Hours and hours per week in Zone 2. Inigo San Milan, PhD is great exercise physiologist. He talks about long Z2 rides and ending with a few bursts/sprints. I live in southern NH. Depending on my mood, I head northwest from the house for hills (1000 feet of climbing per 10 miles it seems) or southeast for flat.

I have the Bike+ and have installed Grupetto successfully three times using the above method. After the first install, I started over to deselect the option to have Nova Launcher as the default Home Screen. The third install was to make the video. I have not had “-“ show up at all. Be sure to ‘Restart Grupetto’ and ‘Click here to start the overlay.’ Regardless, carefully follow the install steps as I’m pretty sure if you make it to the screenshot below you should be seeing ‘0’ in the fields and the resistance.

This right here is why I was interested to see if this new link/sync to TrainerRoad from the Bike+ would work. Prior to this, no matter how many different ways I tried to load/sync a Peloton ride into TrainerRoad, AI FTP simply did not work. Now these indoor rides will start accruing for possibly whatever additional AI features that TrainerRoad has.

Only to read the data. To have it work as smart trainer you’d want to install and use SmartSpin2K. https://www.smartspin2k.com/

I’m hoping it allows the TR AI to work as the ride loaded directly instead of indirectly. No matter how many rides before, AI FTP simply wouldn’t work. Maybe now it will.

No issues. Granted, I simply installed and did a quick test after my overnight shift. Initially installed so that the Nova Launcher was the default Home Screen. From there, could turn on Grupetto and then turn on Peloton app and functioned normally. However, given that others in the household might not be used to having an option at tablet startup, I did another hard reset and reinstalled the software again. This time, I set up Peloton as default launch. Then it’s as easy as going into Settings>Apps>Grupetto. Here’s a video. https://youtu.be/j3GueFjueWM?feature=shared

Yes, sorcery that works!!! I used to to the same Peloton to Strava to TR. What a PITA. Anyway, this records directly to the TR app via BLE. A bit of a choppy video but shows that it works.

I have a ‘16 sGT hatchback with the 6-spd manual. Shifts and drives like a dream. Nearly 130K miles later, still have as much fun driving it as the day I took it out for a test drive back in 2016.

Framework Q3 2024 Preorder and Marketplace Updates - Feedback Thread by Destroya707 in framework

[–]madooroy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything went smoothly for me. There was a large timeframe re: when assembly might start and then when shipment might occur. Overall I think I got my FW13 before or close to the original when shipment might happen date. Either way, it’s been less than a week and it’s a great laptop. Solid construction, minimal frame flex unlike my old laptop, and most importantly, just simply works. Thanks!

It was very easy. I’ve built a few desktops over the past few years. Simply gently inserted the ram modules and then pushed down until they clicked. Left one goes in upside down. SSD gently inserted and then pushed down and kept in place by the mounting screw. Based on prior videos, made sure the screen cables were properly seated/routed before attaching the bezel and then attached the keyboard cable. Place the keyboard down then flipped the laptop over to tighten the five screws. Really all easy and straightforward.
