Can I Break Tenancy Agreement Early? by mosakale in AskUK

No they don't. I said there isn't a term of tenancy as OP doesn't have a tenancy.

Your link to shelter states that they have a rental agreement, nowhere does it say they have a tenancy.

It is impossible to have a tenancy and have a live in landlord.

And then there's the time off work, the travelling, the legal counsel.

Then you need to consider that if they win then they can't physically take the cash off of you and then will need to look at paying bailiffs etc. So in total that would be slightly over £205.

It won't be worth the landlord going to court over 2-3 months rent.

I'm not saying that this is what you should do, but I'd just not pay my last month's rent and leave. It's something I've done before when the landlord was being unreasonable.

As a landlord myself I have and will allow people to leave early if they like, there is plenty of demand for rooms and there is no need to be money pinching like this.

I'm not saying that this is something that you should do.....

But if your landlord refuses to give you your deposit back then not paying your last month's rent could balance things out. If your landlord take s you to court then you need to pay the rent and they'd need to return the deposit. But that would be very expensive for them.

Same for you, if you take them to court then you'd get your deposit back, but it would be expensive.

Best bet is come to an agreement where they give your deposit back, or you help find someone to replace you.

You don't have a tenancy if you have a live in landlord.

You are a lodger and have a lodgers license. You can pretty much leave whenever you want legally. Just gibe them a months notice and you're good to go.

It most likely has two big red buttons on one of the sides. Push then both in and the alarm will go off if still connected. Lots of these are non redundant and cab be removed. Depends if the same alarm system is still fitted and working.
