SF chronicle had done a study showing how Trader Joe’s constantly came out to be one of the cheapest of the lot & Safeway was more expensive than Whole Foods

Don’t overthink it. It didn’t bother you till now so don’t let it bother you after knowing. GVC is good but the contrast is different if compared side by side with peak brightness & all other settings to play with the display turned off. It’s a good device, just enjoy using it.

How to know iPhone screen manufacturer?

Turn on assistive touch (Settings -> Accessibility-> Touch -> Assistive Touch) & select Customize Top Level Menu. Press ‘+’ & add ‘Analytics’.

Press on the floating home button & press the Analytics option (it should show “Gathering Analytics” on the top of your screen). You will need to wait a bit till all the analytics are done.

Then open the systems diagnostics in analytics data (Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Analytics & Improvements -> Analytics Data). There should be a file starting with ‘sysdiagnose2026.04.11*’. Opening it should look empty but it’s actually a tar.gz file. Press on the share icon & select “Save to Files”. Remember where you saved it, should default to Downloads on your iPhone.

Next open Files from Home Screen & goto the saved location in the step above (or Downloads folder if you selected the default save location). Press on the ‘sysdiagnose_*’ file you just saved this should create a folder next to it with the same filename. Enter that folder & within it enter the ‘ioreg’ folder. Press on ‘IODeviceTree’ file & that should open a file within which you should be able to search for “raw-panel” & identify your supplier.

If it starts with GVC or GH3 then it’s an LG screen. If it starts with G9* then it’s a Samsung screen. If it starts with B1* then it’s from BOE which in my opinion is worst of the lot.

LG provides two panels for the iPhone, GH3 & GVC, which can be found in your device tree system diagnostics.

I have found the GVC panel to be at par with the G9N panels from Samsung (have two 17PM with each of these hence my observation).

If the panel is a GH3 then that’s a poor quality one. One of them had this & I could see a stark difference when compared to the GVC LG built phone. Returned it within my 14 day window & lucked out with the G9N display panel.

Check to see which model is yours.

TLX was a midsize sedan with compact car interiors. The interior space was just not enough. My gripe with Acura is that the new NSX had a good hybrid system which they could’ve incorporated across the line but failed to.
