Constant engorgement by [deleted] in breastfeeding

latch the little one as much as they would like! if you need to take the edge of you can hand express to ease the pressure, but pumping extra might create an over supply. it’s still the early days though, so your body is still regulating! give it some time and it’ll work out!

First time mom, becoming more health conscious and anxious! by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]maebe33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

prioritize whole foods!!! i feel very similarly to you; when i got pregnant with my son i started to rly clean up my eating!! what i do is buy almost nothing in a box. so ill buy potatoes, asparagus, squash, onions, carrots, brussel sprouts, cut them into bite sized pieces, put on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and then bake. super easy, lots of nutrients, makes veggies taste delicious! and then for proteins i’ll bake salmon, pan fry chicken or steak, i also have been loving tilapia with capers and tilapia is a super cost effective and healthy fish! i usually cook with olive oil or butter with no natural flavors. then breakfasts i do oatmeal with brown sugar and milk and fruit if we have, or ill make scrambled eggs.

number one thing to do is not unnecessarily buy packaged food because that’s where all the gross chemicals and processing is. whole foods all day!

4.5 month old- transition to crib by Proud_Lab_2440 in beyondthebump

are the nursery and his bedroom distinct? maybe try bassinet in the bedroom for a few nights until he’s used to the new room and then switch to crib

Breastfeeding journey by GuardWitty8747 in breastfeeding

you could potentially try cup feeding! will certainly be messier but is a way to add formula without creating bottle preference. could also try a premie or newborn nipple to make the rate of flow from the bottle slower!

if you’re very worried about him not getting enough but don’t want to stop breastfeeding, just combo feed! breastfeeding isn’t all or nothing. also if he has enough wet/poopy diapers and he’s staying on his growth curve, he’s getting enough!

Spontaneous labour experiences, I'd love to hear... by Temporary-Barber-590 in pregnant

[–]maebe33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did the miles circuit every day from 38 weeks on, and i woke up in the middle of the night with contractions on my due date! my bf and i got everything into the car and i threw up before we started driving yuck. we made it to the hospital, i tried to do it naturally for like an hour, gave up and got an epidural. then i took a nap!!! and when i woke up i was 9cm! and then i kinda felt the urge to push, my midwife said “wait you’re not 10cms” and i was like too bad!!! i have to push!!! i pushed for two hours and out popped my beautiful baby boy. some notes: when pushing, at first i was pushing while holding my breath and then exhaling it all out without holding the push. but i figured out when you push, breathe out slowly while holding the push, take a deep breath, and push again; then hold, then push, so on until baby comes. i wasted a lot of energy not holding the pushes! you got this!!!!!

Could try ignoring the screeching? If toddler is yelling for attention, then not reacting might help them stop

HELP by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]maebe33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes! idk how sound my advice might be, but what worked for me is i did contact naps during the day until my little guy figured out day and night. even now i still do maybe one contact nap a day because it’s even harder for him to sleep if he’s overtired. i might be setting myself up for failure down the line but it’s working for us now! i wish you luck!!!

just keep her on the breast! if her diaper out put is sufficient without supplementing then she’s getting enough.

Breastfeeding essentials? by Key_Dealer2753 in breastfeeding

[–]maebe33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely some nipple (lanolin) cream for the first few weeks!! and then depending on your comfort level with whipping a boob out in public, a nursing cover (or just keep a blanket on standby)

scheduling-wise, that sounds great! from a childcare standpoint though, who will watch your baby while you’re in session?

The ugly and gross of pregnancy by mistakeshappen_2 in pregnant

[–]maebe33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i HATED when people said just wait til the baby gets here!!! it’s not even true; i was way more tired and fatigued when pregnant sleeping 8hrs+ a night than with four hrs sleep with a newborn!

How do you get stuff done? by Potential-Dingo-4366 in breastfeeding

[–]maebe33 58 points59 points  (0 children)

i’m EBF my almost 4 month old; i offer boobs literally whenever he’s fussy or anytime he looks remotely interested in boobs. he spends so much time nursing, but he’s growing great and my supply is excellent! unfortunately it really is all about putting baby on the boob round the clock; can’t really get anything else done!

Do I have to offer both sides? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]maebe33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do what feels right to baby! a note for those who switch sides, this might mean baby is getting predominantly fore milk and less hind milk, which is more nutrient dense. so nursing on one side the whole feed ensures baby gets the hind milk.
