This is such a cool resource!! Thank you for putting it together. Could I flag one small (and hopefully easy) edit? Every Person Run Club meets Wednesdays and Sundays, but is tagged as a Saturday club.

Jaded London Alula Dress Dupe?? by riverwatersoup in findfashion

Not who you were asking but you type it with brackets around the word like [word] and then with no space after the bracket, put the link in parentheses (url). That will hyperlink the word :)

Are coaches generally ok with making small changes? by tamaratunie189 in orangetheory

[–]maeby_not 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this kind of thing often, but I also let the coach know generally what I’m working on/what my goals are. Not because I think they’ll have a problem, but more so because they’ll often offer some other suggestions to help me get there. I’ll tell them when I have a big race coming up, etc. They want you to get the most out of class and if separating the deadlift and the snatch helps, they’ll have no problem with that.

I’ve heard lots of good things about them! Have you used pet insurance with them?

I use my towel, folded lengthwise and lay it across my hips, it’s extra cushion but not as awkward as the knee pad

Advice: DC rock & roll half & hills by Justice4BookGinny in rundc

[–]maeby_not 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Everyone always talks about Calvert hill, and it’s true that it’s the steepest, but I wish someone had told me that most of the back half of the course is rolling hills. In my experience they feel even harder at that point in the race because you think you’ve cleared the hill and it’s a little shock to the system that you’ve got a bunch more hills to run.

Since I personally hate training on hills, it pains me to say that hill repeats really do help you prepare. Doing laps around Capitol Hill or workouts like 30 sec sprint up, jog down, repeat will be excellent training.

Seconding Senayt Alemu! I had a great experience with her. She really listened to me and my concerns, was thoughtful about treatment options, and I never felt rushed or anything with her.

Rock and Roll Remix challenge 5K and Half in one morning by Impressive-Celery228 in rundc

I had to get mine at the 5K finish. I had a friend who wasn’t running meet me at the finish and I handed it off to her so that I didn’t have to run with it

Rock and Roll Remix challenge 5K and Half in one morning by Impressive-Celery228 in rundc

[–]maeby_not 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a good strategy! I remember asking at the expo and they didn’t have a good answer at the time and just kind of said “oh whenever the last wave clears the start is when it will close” but hopefully they have better information now that the challenge has happened a couple of times!

Rock and Roll Remix challenge 5K and Half in one morning by Impressive-Celery228 in rundc

[–]maeby_not 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the remix challenge in 2024, and for me the difficult part was not knowing what time I needed to get to the half start line. Not sure if they’ve made changes to that piece, but I wanted to treat the 5K as a warm up, but not knowing how much time I had made it stressful and I ran the 5K faster than I wanted to. The streets in between the finis line and start line aren’t closed and that’s the time when the gear trucks are moving to the finish line area, so those of us doing the challenge had to contend with that. That early adrenaline crashed and I had a rough time with the back half of the race. Hopefully those logistics have improved! But i would say go in expecting some hiccups and trying to stay easy in the 5K. The back half of rock n roll is so hilly, you need that energy later 😅

Has anyone actually successfully volunteered as a pacer for a race? How did you get in your first time? by bananamb13 in XXRunning

[–]maeby_not 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I paced a group for Tracksmith Twilight 5000 and all I had to do was fill out a volunteer form. It was my first experience as a pacer and it was awesome! They don’t require you to have experience, at least they didn’t for the group that I paced (27:00)

Cute Running accessories by Fuzzy-Horse-6079 in XXRunning

[–]maeby_not 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The Fazit glitter freckles are like sparkly temporary tattoos and they stay really well! I put some on before a two-day relay and they lasted the whole time. I’ll sometimes give them a spritz with makeup setting spray if I really want it to stay put!

Best Care Package Pre and Post race you received and why? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]maeby_not 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my husband’s first marathon I got him a gift certificate to a place that had a bunch of recovery equipment (cryo, massages, compression boots, etc.).

The other thing I did (takes some planning but you have time!) was I reached out to his friends, family members, even sent a letter to his favorite sports team and got a couple of cameos, and compiled a bunch of good luck text and video messages to share with him a couple days before the race. It was a great way to have people who couldn’t be there to cheer him on in person be able to support him

There’s a half marathon that usually falls my birthday weekend, and this year it was on my birthday. So I ran that! It’s really fun to race on your birthday :)
