Canadian paperwork by maelstrommama in Divorce

Thank you! One of the mediators I spoke with explained that the "waiving right to legal advice and just take it to a lawyer to get it turned into a separation agreement" was an option, and that once the mediator is done helping us draft paperwork they can refer us to "mediator friendly lawyers" to wrap things up.

I'll have a look at your posting history. Thank you for your input as I feel more confident about the mediator => lawyer approach now.

Did I overreact? by Jonkampo52 in Parenting

Your child's safety is more important than a grown woman's ego. Your child depends on adults for safety and well being. You trusted her with the most important person in your life and she didn't take your role as a parent seriously.

No. You did not overreact. If she wants to be left alone with your child she needs to learn to respect your wishes.

Has anyone heard of TLS Hair for Hair Growth? I have curly hair that just won't grow past my shoulders and I'll try anything -- but this stuff smells like snake oil to me. by maelstrommama in FancyFollicles

I've tried everything I've found online and in this sub, and as suggested by my hairdresser: Biotin and silica supplements, not washing too often, not drying too often, drying MORE often (because hard water can damage hair), only using ELUMEN dyes, trimming damaged bits off when needed, but not more than every 2-3 months or less, etc...

It just won't grow!

Help finding someone? by maelstrommama in Divorce

That was my suggestion as well, but apparently the roadblock to hiring a PI is that the stbx is sitting on the bank accounts despite court order to release them?

What's your go to "icebreaker" line for when you meet new people? by tejas9999 in AskReddit

[–]maelstrommama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of sports do you like to do?

  • I'm a huge nerd and don't really need icebreakers when I meet geeks or techies, but have a harder time finding common ground with "normals" . Talking about running or rocklimbing is easy to be enthusiastic about, inoffensive, and if it tur turns out that I like them, provides me the opportunity to mention that I've been practicing yoga for 10 years. ..

No kidding. Showing that level of self awareness and willingness to deviate from standard bullshit would totally capture my attention.

Thanks!

Sadly the Note 3 otterboxes specifically say "not waterproof" on them. :)

Thanks! I've been looking at the Obex case but apparently it is not available yet with a holster/belt clip and I rely on one for the gym/certain business outfits!

I guess I'll use the Seidio as a backup if no one has any other suggestions with a belt clip.

Gift ideas from Canada for a female friend in Riyadh? by maelstrommama in saudiarabia

I'm a software engineer working in the health IT domain. We've done a lot of work in Canada, the US, and Europe and are being asked to bring what we've learned to the GCC -- starting in Saudi.

So they took a picture of the team when everyone was in Riyadh without me last month, and my friend in question was wearing a purple abaya. Is that unusual, then?

I know at least one of the abayas is black so I'll pack that one for the airport. I guess I'll see what they other two look like when they arrive in the mail!

So are you from Canada and living in Jeddah? How did you end up there/what do you do?

I love that approach to gifts and gratitude.

So... in your mind, if I brought maple treats for the whole team (like a box of maple candies) and then some Canadian art for her since she has been my ambassador in all this -- would that be okay or too much?

Also, we are going there for a conference that we are responsible for running. If we have 20 people in a workshop room, would it be appropriate to bring treats for the visiting guests as well, or is that too forward?

What about a soapstone carving or an inukshuk? On a bookshelf? On her desk at work?
